Ever since Kacey Musgraves released her debut album Same Trailer Different Park in 2013, she has definitely made a splash in the country music scene.

Fans love learning about Kacey Musgraves's background and they also appreciate that not only does Musgraves have a wonderful singing voice and talent for writing lyrics, but she gets political, too. Musgraves isn't afraid to speak of her mind and this is a great trait for a star to have, but unfortunately, sometimes celebs are shamed for political statements, like when Sophia Bush received horrible messages.

Fans might have heard about Kacey Musgraves putting out some merch that got people talking. Let's take a look at why this is the case.

The T-Shirts

Fans often cheer when their favorite celebrities make political and social statements, and it's nice to know that favorite musicians and actors are not just talented in their chosen field but good people, too. There are some celebs who start charities and others who donate to important charities and prove to their fans that they have good hearts. It's always heartwarming to hear these stories, especially when a celeb has a personal connection to the cause that they're talking about.

Kacey Musgraves put out a t-shirt that says "Crusin' for a brusin'" and, according to V Magazine, she did this in response to Texas senator Ted Cruz and his actions in February 2021 during the massive and wild snowstorm that the state had to deal with.

Not only did Cruz seemingly refuse to help the people in Texas who were terribly affected by the snowstorm, but he also went to Cancun, Mexico for a vacation. It was a bad look and people were understandably upset.

Kacey Musgraves did a great thing by donating the money from the t-shirt sales. She chose the charities the American Red Cross of Central & South Texas, Feed the People Dallas, and Casa Marianella. As of February 20th, 2021, she had raised $50,000, which is definitely impressive.

When Musgraves tweeted about her T-shirts, she wrote, "Texas is cold, I can be cold."

This tweet was based on the lyrics to Musgraves's song "Slow Burn" where she sings "Born in a hurry, always late/Haven't been early since '88/Texas is hot, I can be cold."

The T-shirts were limited edition, according to People, and when a fan tweeted about it, Musgraves said it was making lemonade out of lemons.

According to NPR.org, Cruz said that going to Mexico on vacation was a "mistake," and the Democratic Party wanted him to quit. The publication quoted a tweet from David Shuster, who used to be an anchor on MSNBC, who said, "Cruz seems to believe there isn't much for him to do in Texas for the millions of fellow Texans who remain without electricity/water and are literally freezing."

The reaction from Kacey Musgraves's fanbase was positive, as several posted on Reddit and shared their support. One said "all hail queen Kacey" and another said "love her so much."

Kacey's Background

It's heartwarming that Kacey Musgraves got involved and helped out the people of Texas, as this is her home state. According to Countrymusichalloffame.org, Musgraves was born in Sulphur Springs and then spent her childhood in Golden, Texas. When she was only 8 years old, she would sing country songs at smaller shows in cowgirl-style clothing.

Musgraves explained to the publication that she had a guitar teacher who knew that she could write her own tunes. She said, “He saw that I dabbled in writing a bit and really pushed me to work on that... My assignment was to go home and try to write a song. I fell in love with it.

The singer's star began rising as she relocated to Austin at the age of 18 and won seventh place on a TV show called Nashville Star. She began writing songs at a company in Nashville in 2008 and then explored her own music.

Kacey Musgraves often gets political, which fans appreciate. In an interview with Elle earlier this year, she talked about the political state of the U.S. and said, “I’m constantly torn between free will and fate. I think when you look at the whole last year, or last four years, here in America, you could say that on many fronts it was a tragedy. Then whenever I zoom in to my own personal life, I also experienced tragedy, but in a completely different, personal way.”

It's impressive that Musgraves decided to put out a limited-edition T-shirt to support her home state of Texas and show that it's important to look out for people and help them.
