Good news in these dark times: the Kansas Humane Society's “Black Friday” sale was so successful they adopted out all of their animals.
You normally expect stores to hold Black Friday sales and put things like cell phones and toys on sale. Maybe some old inventory also goes on sale for clothiers, grocery stores, and car dealerships. And of course, there’s always Amazon to contend with.
But one thing that never goes on sale is love. And by ‘love’, we mean a small, furry animal that you can call your own.
When the Kansas Humane Society of Wichita, Kansas announced they would hold a Black Friday sale, we were initially skeptical. Then we actually read the details and it all made sense: all black (or mostly black) colored animals had their adoption fees waived, while every other animal had adoption fees lowered to just $25 per animal.
TODAY! TODAY! We open at 10 a.m. for our Black Friday adoption event! All black pets are free to adopt, all others are $25!— KansasHumaneSociety (@kshumanesociety) November 23, 2018

Zero dollars is a great deal on a new pet, and Kansas agreed. On November 23rd, the linen went around the building to adopt a black pet. But it wasn’t just black pets getting adopted; every furry creature at the Humane Society found a furever home. Every. Single. One.
By the end of the day, the shelter tweeted that they had adopted out 53 cats, 81 dogs and 6 “small mammals.”
Thank you to everyone who helped make today such an amazing success! 140 animals found loving homes. 53 cats, 81 dogs and 6 small mammals. HUGE thanks to @ridehomehappy and the @ASPCA for allowing us to host this event! #sharethelove #aspcaSTL pic.twitter.com/BtzkNPSDLv— KansasHumaneSociety (@kshumanesociety) November 24, 2018
Kansas Humane Society CEO Mark Eby was elated, later tweeting, "Everything that was available for adoption, found a new home!!"

That one day provided over half of the total adoptees for the week. In a later tweet, the Humane Society said that 232 animals had been adopted for the entire week, including 114 dogs, 105 cats, 9 guinea pigs, 3 rabbits, and 1 hamster.
We totally get why that hamster was up for adoption. Hamsters can be vicious.
Sadly, the shelter is already filling up with new fur babies needing to find homes. As of this writing, the Humane Society is reporting that 26 dogs and 26 cats are already available for adoption. They need good homes that only you (or someone you know) can provide. Will you go adopt a black animal after Black Friday?
