Kanye West certainly lives life on his own terms. The “Stronger” hitmaker, who is currently caught up in his divorce from estranged wife Kim Kardashian, has been involved in dozens of controversies over the years, including his infamous meltdown at the 2009 VMAs when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech.

No matter how much bad publicity he would receive, however, the father of four has always managed to make a triumphant comeback — it’s like his fans forgive him for his wild antics simply because he’s Kanye. Well, the producers of Saturday Night Live would beg to differ after opting to BAN the rapper following his infamous 2018 appearance on the NBC show.

West was enlisted to perform on September 29 after Ariana Grande was forced to pull out as she continued grieved the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who died earlier that month. And while show bosses already knew what they were getting themselves into by getting the Grammy winner to take over, nobody predicted things to have been this chaotic. Here’s the lowdown…

Why Did Kanye West Get Banned?

According to Radar Online, West took producers by surprise when he made some last-minute changes to his set, which included an unexpected rant about Donald Trump — something which he kept out of his rehearsals — while sporting a “Make America Great Again” hat.

The unaired rant took place at the end of the taping, which executives clearly felt was not suitable for live TV.

People over at SNL were stunned that West blindsided them in such a manner, especially since the show has been very vocal on their negative stance on the former The Apprentice star and his political views.

His rant received a pretty negative reaction from those in the audience as boos were heard while West continued to speak.

Sources have since claimed that the whole ordeal was such a nightmare, producers have banned West from the show entirely.

What’s worse, during his rant, the “Good Life” chart-topper accused NBC bosses of “bullying” him backstage for wearing his MAGA hat, which insiders close to the production said wasn’t an issue with them.

The problem was his speech being filled with salacious and fabricated remarks that never occurred, such as SNL producers being anything but gracious around West and bending over backward to please his requests.

“They’re laughing at me,” Kanye said during the show. “You heard them? They screamed at me. They bully me. They bullied me backstage. They said don’t go out there with that hat on. They bullied me backstage. They bullied me.”

“SNL has a long history of controversy,” a source told the Naughty But Nice podcast in 2018. “They like it. They thrive on issues.

What they care about is he lied,” Shuter continued, noting, “If you lie about the show you’re on, that’s what gets you in trouble. And that’s why Kanye isn’t going to be invited back to the show for a very long time.”

Just weeks after his appearance on the show, SNL’s Kenan Thompson came forward and claimed the A-list superstar held cast and crew “hostage.”

At the end of the taping, when the unaired rant took place, Thompson later told Late Night with Seth Meyers, “He voiced his opinion very loudly. We’re all entitled to our opinion. I don’t know if that’s the moment, necessarily, to hold people hostage like that.”

“As soon as he said, ‘Hey, join me up on stage, everybody,’ I was like, ‘Oh, there goes the little cheese in the mousetrap.’

I felt so bad for those guys because it’s hard to stand there and not be able to debate somebody who is going so far against your personal opinion, and just stand there and take it.”

Being banned from SNL is probably one of West’s least problems right now after his wife officially filed for divorce back in February.

So far, things are moving pretty well for the soon-to-be ex-couple, who have agreed on joint custody of their four children North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm, with Kardashian also expected to keep their $80 million joint home in Hidden Hills.

The KKW founder, despite no longer being with West, has continued to show her support by attending both of her ex-hubby’s listening parties for his highly-anticipated (and delayed) tenth studio album Donda.

The pair clearly plan on carrying on being close friends as they juggle custodial rights over their kids, and from the way things have been going, the two seem to be doing a good job.
