The film industry has seen a number of esteemed directors come and go! While Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay, and Quentin Tarantino are all considered Hollywood royalty, there are a few film directors that have lost their highly regarded titles, Woody Allen being one of them!

Woody Allen's debut came in 1966 in What's Up, Tiger Lily? and ever since then, he's become quite the icon. The director is responsible for hit movies including, Blue Jasmine, Match Point, and Annie Hall, to name a few, however, following the slew of sexual assault and misconduct allegations against Woody in 1992, his reputation took a hit.

Despite his name being attached to such horrendous claims, actors still took on roles both alongside Woody and as leads in his films. In 2017, Kate Winslet received backlash for appearing in Allen's flick, Wonder Wheel, and countless stars followed suit. Drew Barrymore also expressed her regrets over working with Woody Allen, leading to a domino effect of celebs stepping forward issuing out apologies, explanations, and regrets when it came to working with the Hollywood director.

10 Kate Winslet - 'Wonder Wheel'

Kate Winslet has certainly managed to make quite the name for herself! The Academy Award-winning star has appeared in countless hit films, including her most recognized, Titanic. Well, in 2017, Kate appeared in Woody Allen's film, Wonder Wheel, alongside Justin Timberlake.

After agreeing to appear in the film, Kate received a lot of backlash, and three years following the flick, she issues out a statement regarding her regrets. “It’s unbelievable to me now how those men were held in such high regard, so widely in the film industry and for as long as they were. It’s fucking disgraceful. And I have to take responsibility for the fact that I worked with them both," Kate shared with Vanity Fair.

9 Selena Gomez - 'A Rainy Day In New York'

Selena Gomez has remained relatively unproblematic for most of her career! The Disney star turn pop sensation found herself being asked about working with Woody Allen following the very allegations that came out regarding Harvey Weinstein. When the news broke regarding Harvey's arrest, Selena was just starting out on her Woody Allen film, A Rainy Day In New York.

Gomez was asked about her involvement in the film, the star said, They [Harvey Weinstein allegations] popped up in the midst of it. And that’s something, yes, I had to face and discuss. I stepped back and thought, Wow, the universe works in interesting ways," Selena told Billboard.

8 Blake Lively - 'Café Society'

Blake Lively appeared in Woody Allen's 2016 romantic drama, Café Society, alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, however, after thinking about her role in the film, and its ties to Allen's allegations, it's become clear that Blake may not entirely be happy with her decision, however, it was one she made without knowing all the details.

During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Blake Lively revealed that she based her move solely on her experience with Woody. “It's very dangerous to factor in things you don't know anything about," Blake said.

7 Kristen Stewart - 'Café Society'

Café Society certainly got quite a lot of backlash due to the number of high-profile names attached to the movie. While Blake Lively stands firm in her decision to continue on with the film, Kristen Stewart did too!

Although Stewart spoke out against Woody, she and Jesse Eisenberg felt as if it was best to continue on with production. “The experience of making the movie was so outside of that; it was fruitful for the two of us to go on with it," Kristen told Variety.

6 Cate Blanchett - 'Blue Jasmine'

In 2013, Cate Blanchett appeared in Woody Allen's film, Blue Jasmine. The actress has spoken out about the backlash she's received a few times.

During her first go at addressing the issue, Cate revealed that what's happened is clearly "painful", mainly for those affected. Blanchett later clarified her original statement, saying, "If these allegations need to be re-examined, that in my understanding they've been through court, then I'm wholeheartedly in the support of that," proving that she too is in support of justice being served.

5 Drew Barrymore - 'Everyone Says I Love You'

Drew Barrymore worked with Woody Allen back in 1996 on the film, Everyone Says I Love You. While her role in the film took place quite a long time ago, that hasn't stopped Drew from making it clear that she totally regrets her decision to be a part of the movie.

Drew revealed that she was "gaslit" into working with the Oscar-winning director and considering his impact on the industry, it was a major career move for Barrymore, however, a career move that she isn't happy about today.

4 Timothée Chalamet - 'A Rainy Day In New York'

Timothée Chalamet appeared in Woody's film, A Rainy Day In New York, alongside Selena Gomez. While Chalamet couldn't speak on the matter at the time when asked, mainly due to "contractual obligations", his actions make it clear that he is definitely standing in solidarity with those upset.

Although he couldn't speak directly about the issue, Timothée's choice to donate all of his earnings from the film made where he stood very clear. Chalamet donated his salary to Time's Up, LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN.

3 Rachel Brosnahan - 'Crisis In Six Scenes'

In 2016, Rachel Brosnahan appeared in Woody Allen's film, Crisis In Six Scenes, and was added to the list of actors who admit they regret working with the film director. “Honestly, it's the decision that I have made in my life that is the most inconsistent with everything I stand for and believe in, both publicly and privately,” she shared with the Hollywood Reporter.

The actress made it clear that while she cannot take it back, it has allowed her to reflect on film roles later on and whether they line up with her values. "It's important to me, moving forward, to make decisions that better reflect the things that I value and my worldview," she said.

2 Colin Firth - 'Magic In The Moonlight'

Colin Firth is highly respected in the industry, appearing in countless hit films, including Woody Allen's 2016 movie, Magic In The Moonlight. Colin Firth appeared in the film alongside Emma Stone, and upon being asked about his experience, and whether he'd work with Woody in the future, Colin didn't hesitate before saying no! “I wouldn’t work with him again,” Firth shared with The Guardian.

1 Marion Cotillard - 'Midnight In Paris'

In 2011, Marion Cotillard worked in Allen's film, Midnight In Paris, however, she claims she knew very little about Woody and the allegations. Cotillard said that while she thought him marrying his daughter was "weird", it wasn't her place to cast any judgment.

If asked to work in a film of Woody's today, Cotillard made it clear that she would be digging much deeper! "But I have to say if he asked me to today I would question more, I would dig more…. I’m very ignorant about this story and I just see that it hurts to see people suffering," she told the Hollywood Reporter.
