Kate Winslet hasn't had the best of luck when it comes to her love life. Her first love and mentor, Stephen Tredre, tragically died early in her career. Her second love, Jim Threapleton, left her after a messy marriage. Her third love, Sam Mendes, cheated on her, making her a two-time divorcee. Now, hopefully, her fourth and final love, Edward Abel Smith, will be the winner of a wonderful and talented Winslet for years and years to come.A couple of great things came out of her start-and-stop love life, though, her three children: Mia, who she had with Threapleton, Joe, Mendes's son, and Bear, Smith's son. Plus, Winslet gets to watch her daughter enter into the family business too.Now that Mia is in her twenties, she's started to dabble in acting, and it seems like she's off to a great start. But following in her mother's footsteps hasn't been completely a piece of cake. There have definitely been some challenges for the young star along the way, but she isn't sinking like Titanic underneath it all. She's overcome a lot and found there are positives for every negative. Here's what we know about Mia and what kind of challenges she had to face in her own journey to stardom.

Updated on December 27, 2022: Mia Threapleton has taken her acting to a new level in 2022. She came into the year with only two titles on her resume, but by its end added two television series to her filmography: I Am... and Dangerous Liaisons. Threapleton also has another project in the works, a TV show called The Buccaneers, a period drama based off of Edith Wharton's novel of the same name, that is currently in production.

Threapleton Knew What Going Into Acting Meant

With her mother being one of the most famous actresses in Hollywood and her father being a director, Threapleton was in safe hands when she decided to go into acting.

Winslet talked about her daughter going into the business on Lorraine. "I think I knew it was coming, I always suspected..."

"And then a few years ago she turned around and said, I’d like to give it a go," Winslet continued.

Winslet also pointed out one positive thing about Threapleton getting into acting, "What’s great for her is she has a different surname so she slipped under the radar and the people who cast her didn’t know she was my daughter and that was important for her self-esteem of course," she said.

Having a different surname than her famous mother is probably really great for starting out in the business. She can make a name for herself on her own terms, without her mother's name to help her.

So far, Threapleton has appeared in her mother's 2014 romantic drama A Little Chaos and Shadows, directed by Carlo Lavagna and shot in a creepy abandoned hotel in the middle of the woods near Howth, Ireland.

She's Already Pushed Passed Some Challenges In Her Short Career

Winslet has kept her life very private over the years, and according to her, she doesn't really live like a celebrity. But that isn't the only unconventional thing about her. She also didn't really show her daughter much about her career either.

According to Nicki Swift, Threapleton didn't really spend much of her childhood watching her mother act. She grew up "with a unique idea about the industry, believing that acting and watching someone act are two different things."

"It was always a special treat. It's a very different experience when it is happening to you, and not just something I was getting to observe from time to time," Threapleton told Variety in November 2020.

Now she understands what her mom meant when she said working in the business was hard.

Working in the business is a little harder for Winslet's daughter, however. She had an outstanding first audition, but she thinks that's only because of the script. She has dyslexia, so having enough time to read the script was very important.

"Shadows was the first film I'd received an audition for and the first script I had ever been given to read. I couldn't believe my luck. I read it and didn't put it down, which is admitting a lot because I'm dyslexic and that means I have to read slowly and steadily to be able to absorb things fully sometimes," she told Variety.

When she first started to audition, she was both excited and nervous. "I just hoped I would get the chance to do what I had wanted to do for so long!" she said. "I tried to connect her [her character in Shadow] deeper emotions to times where I may have felt the way she did. Frustration, a desire for independence, a need to be loved and taken care of. Fear. All normal things that teenagers tend to go through I guess."

It seems like Threapleton already knows how to connect with her characters which is really great. So far, Threapleton has a couple of episodes of the 2022 series Dangerous Liaisons on her resume, but she'll have more credits soon enough, no doubt.
