Keanu Reeves’ reputation in Hollywood is as remarkable as they come. The general consensus appears to lean towards the sentiment that he is one of the nicest guys in the industry. This narrative was recently reinforced when the actor was captured in a video helping crew members move equipment on the set of his upcoming action thriller film John Wick 4. His talent is considered unquestionable by most as well, although — as always — a few naysayers have called doubts about his acting ability.

Reeves would not need to get into an argument with any of those, however, such is the illustrious nature of his portfolio over the years. Having started his on-screen career as a correspondent for a youth television show in his native Canada, he has since gone on to take on some of the most iconic roles in the world of modern cinema.

Other than playing the popular John Wick, Reeves is also known for his work in The Matrix series of films, as well as other movies like Speed, The Devil’s Advocate, Constantine, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Toy Story 4. With more than six dozen big screen credits to his name, the Beirut-born star is worth an estimated $380 million in 2023.

The fabled scene in Knock Knock featured Keanu Reeves and his two main co-stars in the film: Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas. Normally, the scene would have been business as usual, with the actors having to get over a little awkwardness to film it and then move on. There was only one little detail throwing a spanner into the works: at the time of shooting the scene, Izzo was in fact engaged to director Eli Roth.

Izzo and Roth first met in 2012, on the set of the Chilean-American disaster horror film Aftershock. The picture was directed by Nicolás López, a mutual friend of the two future lovebirds, who were both part of the main cast. The following year, Izzo also played the main role in Roth’s cannibal horror movie The Green Inferno.

Keanu Reeves got to speak about the awkwardness of filming a the scene with the director’s fiancée in Knock Knock when he featured in an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote the film. The host was particularly intrigued by the dynamics of shooting such a scene, and asked the actor if it was the most awkward scene he had ever done in his life.

Reeves admitted that the situation had been slightly odd, but also insisted that the relationships between him and Roth as well as Lorenza Izzo herself made it easier to get through it.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s always… Those scenes are weird, you know? But Eli had created a great situation of trust and rehearsal,” he explained. “I mean, I wasn’t that guy who was like, ‘Eli, your wife is hot!’ Like every day [thinking], ‘I can’t wait [to perform the scene.]”

In different interviews, Roth and Izzo also explained that it had been quite awkward for them as well, although the director was happy to create some shock value for the audience: “I want people to come out of this movie going, ‘Oh my God, I completely didn’t expect it to go there,” he said.
