Britney Spears recently blasted her ex-husband, Kevin Federline over claims that their two teenage sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James Federline are keeping their distance from her. The Baby One More Time singer — who's set to make a music comeback with Elton John — was then defended by her new husband, Sam Asghari.

As a result, the drama has exploded, leading fans to uncover the benefits Federline still unjustly gets from Spears' $70 million wealth due to her recently ended 10-year conservatorship. Here's everything you should know about their complicated co-parenting relationship.

Why Kevin Federline Has Sole Custody Of His Kids With Britney Spears

Spears filed for divorce from Federline in November 2006 over "irreconcilable differences." At the time, the couple had just welcomed their second child together, Jayden James.

In July 2007, the two were granted joint legal and physical custody over their kids. But the following year, the Crossroads star suffered a mental breakdown and was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold. That left Federline with sole custody of the boys. In February that year, the singer's father, Jamie Spears was appointed as her conservator — giving him full control over her assets.

For a while, Spears and Federline worked around the conservatorship and managed to maintain an amicable co-parenting relationship. They were even spotted together at their boys' soccer and football matches.

But in 2018, the former backup dancer demanded an increase in child support payments from the Grammy winner. He requested an addition of $20,000 a month. After months of court meetings, Federline rejected Spears' proposal and doubled his request to $40,000. They reached a settlement in September that year, with Spears agreeing to increase her child support payments from $20,000 to $35,000 per month.

Is Kevin Federline Married?

Federline has been married to TV personality, Victoria Prince since 2013. She is a former volleyball player and teacher. She has two daughters from a previous relationship, Jordan Kay and Peyton Marie. Nowadays, she's a stepmom to Federline and Spears' sons, as well as his eldest children —Kori Madison and Kaleb Michael Federline — from his high-profile relationship with ex-fiancée, Shar Jackson.

Recently, Prince did a Daily Mail interview alongside Federline. There, she said that she has a "normal" family life despite her husband's association with Spears. "This is a normal home, a family… full of love. Whatever is happening outside has nothing to do with this home," she said in the special. Federline added that all his children have a close relationship with Prince. "Family is supposed to stick together, and just because they're not my immediate family, you know, they're my sons', my kids' immediate family," shared the former Mr. Spears. "They love their memaw. My priority has always been: it is about what is good for the boys."

Britney Spears Called Out Kevin Federline Over His 'Daily Mail' Interview

During the exclusive Daily Mail interview, Federline revealed that Sean and James intentionally skipped their mom's wedding to Asghari.

"This whole thing has been hard to watch, harder to live through, harder to watch my boys go through than anything else," Federline told the publication. "It's been tough. It's the most challenging thing I've ever had to do in my life." Spears took to Instagram to slam her ex-husband's comments.

"The conservatorship has only been over for eight months. Reminder that the trauma and insults that come with fame and this business not only affect me but my children as well!!!!!. I'm only human and I've done my best," she wrote. I'm not surprised that as my family did their share of interviews, they will to. I'm not surprised at all with their behavior and their approach to what I've had to deal with."

Federline also said that "there were a lot of things going on" that made him uncomfortable bringing the kids to see Spears in the past few years. This includes her recent naked photos on Instagram, as well as the attacks she's made against him on the platform. Spears addressed the issue in her Instagram statement, saying: "Other artists have made much worse when their children were extremely young!!!"
