Wendy Williams may have put up with a 13-year affair her ex-husband Kevin Hunter shared with his girlfriend Sharina Hudson, but one positive thing that came out of the relationship was the birth of her son, Kevin Hunter Jr. After several miscarriages, Wendy has often described the 20-year-old as her “miracle child,” who is currently attending college in Miami.

While Kevin Jr. is only 20 years old, he’s definitely faced some tough moments in his life, such as the time his parents had to send him away to a treatment center after having smoked synthetic marijuana that left him in a dire mental state back in 2015.

The controversial talk show host has been very open and honest about her personal life, especially with matters concerning her son — but one thing Wendy has always made clear is that whatever her son is going through, she always has his back no matter what.

What’s Wendy’s Relationship With Her Son?

The 56-year-old first started talking about her child on her talk show back in 2014, when she discussed Madonna’s relationship with her son, Rocco, during a Hot Topics segment.

During the live taping, Wendy said she was in awe of the relationship the Queen of Pop shared with Rocco because she had recently gotten the impression that her son “doesn’t like me anymore.”

“Rocco’s 13-years-old and Rocco is a real fan of his mother,” she told her studio audience. “You know how it is, I know what it is… Kevin, I discovered this a while ago, but the ball just got smacked home this weekend,”

“You know, he’s all into his father, you know how 13-year-olds are, I was the same way when I was 13, but it is breaking my heart. He’s a father, he’s a buddy, they talk sneakers, they go for hair cuts, they speed off in the cars and I’m just left there feeling like, "Why you so pissed?" I’m not pissed, I’m a mom!”

Weeks later, however, she admitted that the relationship with her son had gotten better, adding that after Kevin Jr. saw the episode of his mother crying on television, he became more aware of his actions, though Wendy noted that his behavior change towards her was solely down to him going through puberty.

Two years later and Wendy’s son was a hot topic yet again on her talk show, as the mother of one revealed how Kevin Jr. had developed a drug addiction after smoking synthetic marijuana, which had left him in such a bad state that she needed to send him away for professional help.

According to Wendy, Kevin Jr. had used a vape pen to smoke his marijuana, not realizing that what he was smoking was a synthetic drug called K2. Things had gotten so bad in the family’s household that both Wendy and her ex-husband Kevin Hunter intervened the minute they noticed a drastic change in their son’s conduct.

“So the most important thing that happened this summer, which was a life-changing thing for the Hunter Family, is our son was made exposed to synthetic marijuana and he was exposed by a loved one who he looked up to,” she gushed.

“It’s one of those pens where you don’t see the smoke, and you don’t smell anything,” she said. She then added, “I was duped and my kid had been smoking this mess and he got turned out to the point that he went off the rail for a moment.”

While she never revealed where exactly Kevin Jr. was taken to overcome his drug habit, sources allege it was a treatment center that specialized in helping those who’ve battled with addiction.

The former radio personality told Entertainment Tonight in 2018 that she, too, has had her fair share of struggles when it comes to drugs, having relied on cocaine to help her through a long-running career in radio prior to landing her daytime talk show.

“I was a functioning addict though,” Wendy assured. “I report to work on time, and I’d walk in and all my co-workers, including my bosses, would know, but since I would have my headphones on and walk in the studio and [they] wouldn’t fire me because I was making ratings.”

While Kevin Jr. has since left New York to attend college in another state, from what’s been gathered, he’s still very close with his mother, who he regularly accompanies to star-studded industry events when he gets a little time away from his studies.

And by the look of things, Wendy couldn’t be prouder of the young man her son has become.
