KFC is running a competition that requires the winner to name their newborn baby after the company's founder, Colonel Sanders.
Any number of things can be the inspiration behind a baby's name. There are likely countless Hermiones and Jacobs in schools right now due to the popularity of Harry Potter and Twilight respectively. As time moves forward, there are even more unique and quirky names coming into play, especially for those children who have Hollywood stars or famous recording artists as parents.
But what about parents who have a particular penchant for fast food? We wonder if there are people out there named Ronald or Wendy because their moms and dads wanted to pay homage to their favorite restaurant chain. What we can almost guarantee is that there is no one out there named after KFC's founder Colonel Sanders, however, that is all about to change.
The fried chicken fast food joint is running a competition. One lucky person who names their newborn baby after the Colonel will win $11,000 towards that baby's future college tuition. Don't worry, you don't have to name your baby Colonel or even Sanders. The name KFC wants you to use is their founder's first name, Harland. The chicken connoisseurs discovered that Harland is currently the 3275th most popular name in the United States, and this is their grand plan to change that.
It’s a great name for your baby. Just say it out loud. Harland. Plus, your greatly named kid could get $11,000 for college.— KFC (@kfc) August 29, 2018
As you might have guessed, there are a fair few hoops to jump through. Most importantly, there can only be one winner, and that winner will be the first baby born on September 9th, 2018, who is named Harland. The date will mark what would have been Colonel Sanders' 128th birthday. From midnight on that day, parents who name their newborn Harland will be able to go to the competition website and submit their entry.
Those of you who are planning on trying to cash in on this crazy competition will have a tense wait on your hands once September 9th has come and gone. New parents will have 30 days to submit their entries and the winner will not be announced until November 1st, 2018. Only one baby can win though, and that will be the first baby named Harland to be born in the United States this Sunday on September 9th.
