Kim Basinger Went Through A Major Divorce Battle With Ex-Alec Baldwin

They married in 1993 and less than a decade later, the marriage between Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin had come to an end. The divorce settlement wasn't an easy one, especially according to Baldwin when it came to the court proceedings.

Baldwin revealed, "I don't care if the judges and the lawyers die of heart attacks in the process of getting their job done," he said. "They are corrupt, inefficient, lazy, stupid—they're the most God-awful people."

The process wasn't any easier for Basinger, especially given the fact that the details of the split were out in the open.

Basinger told The Edit magazine, "Divorce is hard on a kid, no matter how you cut it," the actress said. "And ours was very public and nasty. So I brought up Ireland in a very unconventional way. I just wanted her to be free. If she wanted to have her friends over and write over the walls with pen, that was fine. I wanted her childhood to be full of love and light and animals and friends."

That wasn't the only time Kim was in court, facing legal troubles. The same went down during the '90s when Basinger decided to back out of her role in, Boxing Helena.

Kim Basinger Got Sued By Main Line Pictures For Backing Out Of Boxing Helena

The role in Boxing Helena was way too much for Kim Basinger to handle. It is also said that Madonna agreed and would back out of the film as well. According to EW, Basinger thought her career would be over had she taken on the role.

EW writes, "It was a role so perverse even Kim Basinger and Madonna backed out of it."

The publication continues, "Basinger told an L.A. judge and jury two weeks ago, Hollywood pals predicted the part would make her an industry joke. Her agent even believed audiences would hurl tomatoes at the screen. Though ”well constructed,” Basinger went on, ”it was probably the strangest piece I ever read…The idea of a woman with no arms and no legs was very bizarre to me.”

Backing out of the role proved to be costly for Basinger, as she was forced into a lawsuit with the production company, Main Line Pictures. Kim was forced into filing fo bankruptcy, as she was ordered to fork over more than $7 million, with a net worth at the time just over $5 million.

Variety wrote, "Kim Basinger has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, declaring that she does not have the financial assets to collateralize a multimillion-dollar breach of contract judgment that she’s been ordered to pay Main Line Pictures."

Basinger's other funds were tied up elsewhere, including the purchase of an entire town...

Buying An Entire Town Didn't Help Kim Basinger's Bankruptcy Issue Either

So where was the rest of Kim's net worth. It was in Braselton, Georgia, but of course... Years prior in 1989, Basinger dropped $20 million on entire town.

According to Slice, Kim's hope was to create a massive tourist attraction with the purchase.

"Kim Basinger bought an entire Georgia town — nearly 1,700 acres — paying $20 million with a plan of turning the place into a tourist attraction by building a movie studio and hosting a film festival."

Those plans never took shape and Kim's hopes likely dashed completely following the lawsuit with Main Line Pictures.
