Kim Kardashian's relationships have always been under scrutiny, and given the level of exposure she has to deal with on a daily basis, it's remarkable that she has managed to keep some semblance of privacy.

After her divorce from Kanye West, Kim's dating life was thrown under the spotlight once again as she began a relationship with Pete Davidson. While they seemed to be perfect for each other, recently fans received the news that the two of them had broken up. Here's what we know.

How Long Had They Been Dating?

After her public and painful separation from Kanye West, Kim Kardashian approached her next relationship with care. It's not just her that is involved, after all. She's got children to take into account. That didn't stop her from falling in love, though. It was in November of last year that she officially announced she was in a relationship with Pete Davidson, and that she was incredibly happy with him.

"Pete has told her he doesn't want to see anyone else," a source said when their romance was revealed. The feeling was mutual, it seemed. "She is telling some people they aren't super serious, but she isn't seeing anyone else... She's trying to not make a big deal about it but is super into him." Both of them were casual about their relationship, but still, they had no problem sharing their true feelings. "They are really happy and seeing where it goes," the source added. And this makes the news about their breakup all the more shocking and sad.

Why They Broke Up

Up until a few weeks ago, the couple had been posting wholesome selfies together, so the breakup came as a big surprise for fans. But the sad truth is, no matter how much two people love each other, sometimes things just don't work out. Both of them have very busy careers, and on top of that, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is a mother of four and dealing with a divorce, so it makes sense that she couldn't concentrate on a new relationship. Their breakup was amicable, though, and entirely due to external circumstances. They still love each other, it's just not the right time for them. As reported by E! News, both Kim and Pete have "a lot of love and respect for each other." The main problems were the long distance and their demanding schedules, which, with time, "made it really difficult to maintain a relationship."

While it's always sad to realize that love isn't enough to sustain a relationship, it's good to see that they can still remember their time together fondly.
