Ridley Scott admitted to being fooled by Lady Gaga's method acting approach to her 'House Of Gucci' character.

In the movie directed by the 'Alien' filmmaker, the singer and actress plays Italian disgraced socialite Patrizia Reggiani, arrested for plotting the murder of her husband Maurizio Gucci, head of the Gucci fashion empire. The star-studded ensemble cast also includes Adam Driver in the role of Maurizio, as well as Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, and Salma Hayek.

As it is clear from the trailers that have been released so far, Gaga fully tapped into her Italian roots for the role, giving her character a thick accent. According to Scott in an interview with 'Vulture', the 'Bad Romance' singer was constantly in character, on and off the set.

Ridley Scott Says Lady Gaga Went Full Method To Channel Patrizia Reggiani In 'House Of Gucci'

Scott explained Gaga's commitment to the role almost fooled him.

"Well, at first I forgot,” the 83-year-old director said.

“Because she was so in character every minute of the day I saw her. Even socially, she was right in character. So I thought, I think this has always been her. But it wasn’t," he continued.

But Gaga wasn't the only one going for the Method approach. Jared Leto, who plays Paolo Gucci in yet another of his transformative roles, also never broke character while filming.

"He works in a very similar fashion," Scott said of the 'Suicide Squad' actor.

"Once he goes in, it’s like he’s immersed, and he doesn’t come out and breathe for air until he’s finished," he added.

Patrizia Reggiani Wanted To Meet Lady Gaga Before The Movie Was Made

Gucci and Reggiani were married for twelve years, from 1973 to 1985. They divorced in 1991 after he left her for a younger woman.

In 1998, Reggiani was found guilty to have hired an assassin to murder Maurizio three years prior. Known as Black Widow during the trial that earned significant media attention, the woman was sentenced to 29 years in prison. She was released in 2016 after serving 18 years with credit for good behavior.

When news of the movie filming started circulating earlier this year, Reggiani said she was annoyed that Gaga didn’t ask to meet with her to prepare for the role.

'House of Gucci' will be released in the US on November 24, 2021.
