When Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County debuted on television in 2004, there was no way the people behind that “reality” show could know how influential it would be. Inspired by the popularity of The O.C., Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County only lasted a couple of seasons. However, the show spawned two other series, The Hills and The Hills: New Beginnings, both of which were on the air years after The O.C. was canceled.

Of all the people that starred in those three “reality” shows, it could easily be argued that Lauren Conrad is the most famous. Unfortunately, it is abundantly clear that she has very mixed feelings about her time as a “reality” star. On the other hand, several former Laguna Beach stars clearly are very interested in staying in the spotlight, including Jason Wahler.

In the years since Jason Wahler first appeared on television as one of the stars of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, a lot has changed for him. Most notably, he found sobriety after struggling with addiction and he got married to a woman named Ashley Slack. On top of being married to Wahler, Slack is an interesting person in her own right and fans of this franchise should know more about her life and relationship.

Relationship Beginnings

These days, it certainly seems like most couples meet through online dating sites. Of course, that hasn’t always been the case and when you have been in the public eye, as Jason Wahler has been for a long time due to his Laguna Beach role, that doesn’t seem like a good option. For that reason, it makes a lot of sense that Ashley Slack met Wahler through friends at a club one night.

Speaking about how the couple met during an interview with Cosmopolitan, Slack said; “We were at a club before he got sober. My girlfriend said, “That’s Jason Wahler. We should go over and sit at his table.” After initially hitting it off, Slack and Wahler traded numbers but neither of them reached out for a long time until they reconnected over Facebook.

After Wahler pursued Slack online for a while, the pair finally went on their first date which Slack talked about during that same Cosmopolitan interview. “Finally, we ended up going out on our first date, and mind you, this was like a week before his one-year sobriety, and literally, we were together ever since. I cooked him a homemade dinner and he sat me down and asked me to be his girlfriend. It was really cute.”

Tieing The Knot

After Ashley Slack and Jason Wahler had been together for some time, they eventually decided to walk down the aisle. Of course, Wahler and Slack couldn’t afford a crazy expensive ceremony, like some celebrities can, but they still seemed to have had a wonderful day. Wed in front of 180 guests in Malibu, the couple reportedly shared their first dance as a married couple to David Gray’s “This Year’s Love” and their guests posed in front of a photo booth. On top of revealing those details about their big day, Wahler even allowed Life & Style Magazine to print his wedding vows.

“Dr. Seuss once said you know you’re in love when reality is better than your dreams. I always lived my life through my dreams until the day I met you. In your eyes I have found my home. In your soul I have found my mate. In your heart I have found my love. You make me laugh, you let me cry. I am yours and you are mine. You are my breath, my every heartbeat. Today I stand before you offering my love. I promise to love you today, tomorrow, and always. I promise to nurture your dreams because through them your soul shines. I promise to be faithful, supportive and to always make our families’ love and happiness my priority. With you, I am whole. You are my best friend, my confidant, my love, and today you become my wife.”

A Well Rounded Person

Years after her husband Jason Wahler rose to “reality” show fame, Ashley Slack followed suit when she began appearing in The Hills: New Beginnings in 2019. Speaking about her decision to join the show, during the aforementioned Cosmopolitan interview Slack revealed that it was not an easy one to make.

“My husband I talked about it so much, and because we have such an interesting relationship and we’ve gone through so much and we’re still together and married and happy, we really wanted to share our experience with others. Especially when it comes to recovery because Jason had such a public battle with his struggle with addiction. It seemed like a no-brainer that right now, our society needs people that are going to try and help others.” Of course, Slack’s decision to become a “reality” star was likely made a lot easier knowing how rich Lauren Conrad has become.

The Hills New Begginings Cast

Aside from Slack’s “reality” TV tenure, which is set to continue since The Hills: New Beginnings has been renewed for a second season, she worked as a hair colorist for seven years. Additionally, Slack is a model and self-professed “foodie” who has written about her favorite recipes on a blog called Lilah & Lou. As for the title of her blog, Slack named it after her dog, King Louis, and the love of her life, her adorable daughter Delilah.
