Let's start with how her popularity began, on the hit sitcom 'That '70s Show'. According to Prepon, there was a certain moment during the audition that cemented her part on the show.

Getting Cast On 'That '70s Show'

Going to audition for the role on 'That '70s Show' clearly changed Prepon's career, especially at such a young age. Even before she auditioned, it is said that the show creators knew she was the perfect candidate for the role.

"One of the things that's really funny is later after I got on the show, I had said to our creators, Bonnie and Terri Turner, 'What was the thing that made you know that I was Donna?'" she recalls. "They said, 'First of all, when you came in, you just were Donna. You were Donna Pinciotti; you were perfect for her."

As if that wasn't enough, she cemented the audition with the way she left the room, "At the end of the audition, I looked at them and I said, 'We good?' And I put my hands on the table and I pushed off like a total tomboy. It was just how I got up from my table. They said that sealed the deal."

She soared in the role, playing the perfect girl next door role.

Following the show's success, Prepon ventured out into different cameos. It was in 2013 when her career shifted for the better yet again, this time in a controversial role.

Landing 'Orange Is the New Black'

She's a very private person, which is why landing such a role on 'OITNB' felt very surprising. The show is not conservative in nature. According to her interview with Marie Claire, Laura revealed that the best way to go about is to not take it personally.

"The thing about our show is, you can't take it personally. We go after everything; racism, religion, same sex orientation. Audiences are smart. They want to be challenged and made to think about things, whether they agree with them or not."

"I don't know, there are a lot of moments on the show where I'm like, "okay, interesting..." but you're playing a character. At the end of the day, it's a television show, and I always try to separate my personal ethics and morals if it makes sense for the character and the material. We're hired to do our job. To pretend. And you do that the best you can."

A great way to look at her role on the show and it is no secret, she thrived in the spot. With all the success, Prepon prefers to live her life outside of the spotlight.

Under The Radar Lifestyle

Unlike some of her other castmates from the FOX sitcom, Prepon has been focused on living life under the radar, outside of the tabloid gossip.

A big part of her clean-cut ways is the fact that she really isn't a party animal, and in a way, more introverted.

"In L.A., you go everywhere in your car. In New York, you're just on the street. I feel a lot more exposed being here, but I do love the city. I'm not really a partier, so I don't go out and party. I'm very careful."

"I like having my privacy, but that being said, the other day I was walking down the street and my friend told me she saw pictures of me. A photographer caught me and I wasn't even aware. I don't know, girl, I just do the best I can."

Given her answer, it only makes sense that she was hesitant to join social media. It took a big push from her reps to get on the social media platforms.

She Wanted No Part Of Social Media

Let's be real here, getting on social media can be very exhausting and in truth, a job in itself. Given the lifestyle of stars like Prepon, keeping up-to-date with that kind of stuff really isn't easy.

Prepon would rather enjoy that part of her life and keep it quiet, though according to her publicist, in this day and age, it is a must.

Prepon agreed, even though she wasn't all that into at the start.

"If you were to talk to my publicist, she would totally laugh because this is something she and I always have these funny arguments about. I'm like, I'm not gonna spend my day updating my social media. I want to enjoy and live my life. I want to let people in, I want fans to know what I'm doing, but there's also a lot I keep close to the vest."

"I didn't want to be a part of it. But it's gotten to the point where now it's part of our jobs. If you're in the entertainment industry, you have to tweet, be on Facebook, and have Instagram. It's an interesting dynamic that I struggle with all the time, truthfully."

Despite the struggle, she's doing a great job on IG, posting a lot of motherhood content. Fans are loving it and appreciative, given that she's followed by over 7 million fans.
