Laura Spencer Wasn't Aware That Emily's Character Was Going To Take A Dark Turn On The Big Bang Theory

Oh, how different things turned out to be for Laura Spencer and her Emily character on The Big Bang Theory. As fans saw on the show, Spencer's role took a darker turn in the later episodes and according to the actress, this was not planned, especially during her audition for the series.

She recalls, "It’s hilarious, because, when I first auditioned, my character didn’t have any inkling of being dark in any way."

The same held true for Spencer when she began shooting episodes, "I don't know if they had this idea all along, because when I was in the first couple of episodes there was no indication that I was at all strange. So it was a total delight when they just threw in one of my first lines in last season, where I say something like, “I love cutting people with knives and I can do it legally with my job.” I was like, “Wait, am I kidding," she revealed alongside Yahoo Entertainment.

Spencer ultimately ran with it and had a blast in the role. She would also develop some close connections, especially with Melissa Rauch and Simon Helberg.

Laura Spencer made plenty of reveals when it came to her time on the sitcom, one of which, included calling Simon Helberg the funniest of the entire cast. According to the actress, shooting scenes with Helberg wasn't always easy, often leading her breaking while trying to keep a game face.

Alongside The TV Watch Tower, the actress was also asked about her favorite couple on the show. Spencer revealed that not only did she love Howard and Bernadette's relationship, but she also enjoyed working with the actors behind the characters.

"I’d probably pick Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch). I may be a bit biased there too because I’ve gotten to do scenes as double-dates with that couple, so get to see their back-and-forth banter and dynamic up close and personal. So I guess I have an attachment to that."

She continued, "I think Simon and Melissa are really lovely people. Everyone on the show is lovely. It is just really fun to see two pros go at it."

Laura Spencer's Deal With The Big Bang Theory Was Originally For One Episode

When asked what was her biggest surprise on the series, Laura Spencer did not hesitate with her response. According to the actress, it was watching her character evolve along the way, which was also quite the treat for fans.

In addition, Spencer would further reveal that she did not anticipate staying onboard for as long as she did. Spencer stated that her role on the show was initially meant for one episode.

"When I auditioned for it, I only knew that I would be on for one episode."

She continued, "It was cool to work on the show once, and then to get to come back and to learn more about more character and to work with everyone on the cast by now has just been a dream come true."

It was quite the journey for Spencer, who to her credit, was also working an entirely different genre at the time, appearing on Bones simultaneously.

The actress remains busy nowadays, recently completing her latest series, Work/Friends, taking on the role of Sam in another TV project.
