There comes a point in every successful actor's career where they are forced to turn down a role, especially during their prime.

For Leonardo DiCaprio, that has been the case for a very long time, arguably starting in the early '90s. He appeared in countless classics, though along the way, he also said no to a slew of great films, some that brought in billions at the box office.

Throughout the article, we'll take a look at notable roles he brushed aside, along with the film he could've appeared in back in 1994, alongside both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

Ultimately, he didn't get the role and he would only appear alongside Brad more than 20 years later, in 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood'.

Leo Passed On A Few Notable Roles

Oh, where to begin. Leo said no to roles that most actors would drool over. The most recent, was in the film 'Jobs', playing the role of Steve Jobs. Among the others includes 'Boogie Nights', 'American Psycho', and 'Inglorious Basterds'. Perhaps the worst of the bunch has to be 'The Matrix' and 'Star Wars'.

Also notable superhero roles he turned down include Spider-Man and Batman. According to Leo, for both roles, the timing just wasn't right.

"As I recall I took the meeting, but didn't want to play the role," DiCaprio explained. "Joel Schumacher is a very talented director but I don't think I was ready for anything like that."

It turned out to be the same ordeal for Spider-Man, "That was another one of those situations, similar to Robin, where I didn't feel ready to put on that suit yet."

His career turned out to be more than okay but one can't help but wonder what could've transpired had he taken on these roles. In truth, back in 1994, things could've gone a lot differently had he appeared in this film alongside Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

Christian Slater Gets The Role For 'Interview With The Vampire'

The film in question is none other than 'Interview with the Vampire'. The movie saw Tom Cruise in the lead, alongside up-and-comer Brad Pitt. River Phoenix was also set for the film, however, due to his sudden passing, producers quickly looked for a suitable replacement.

Among the names included none other than Leo. Ultimately, it was Christian Slater who got the role to star in the film.

At least according to Brad, it may have been a blessing to see Leo pass on the role. The film conditions were really bad, so much so that Brad contemplated walking off the set.

"I'm telling you, one day it broke me. It was like, 'Life's too short for this quality of life.' I called David Geffen, who was a good friend. He was a producer, and he'd just come to visit. I said, 'David, I can't do this anymore. I can't do it. What will it cost me to get out?' And he goes, very calmly, 'Forty million dollars.' And I go, 'OK, thank you.' It actually took the anxiety off of me. I was like, 'I've got to man up and ride this through, and that's what I'm going to do.'"

Despite the struggle, Pitt thrived in the film and it opened so many doors. As for Leo, he turned out to have quite the career regardless and years later, his path would finally cross Brad's.

Years Later, He And Brad Finally Got Together

It might be hard to believe, but up until 2019, the two Hollywood stars had never appeared in a film side-by-side. That all changed in 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood' and in truth, it was well worth the wait. The two thrived together and it would lead to Pitt capturing an Oscar for his supporting role.

In addition, DiCaprio spoke fondly about his time alongside the Hollywood A-lister.

"What was very interesting about working with Brad was this strange inherent comfort and ease that we really both clicked into day one. It didn’t need a lot of prep work."

"We talked about the script, and we instinctively knew that dynamic and relationship, and who these guys were to one another. We both have been in those situations and have had and have those relationships on set. Also, these two guys go off and spiral off into their own side stories, and then they reconnect."

Timing is everything and without a doubt, we're happy the two finally got to appear alongside one another.
