The Emmy-nominated actress and comedian will star alongside Murphy in Coming 2 America, the hotly anticipated second chapter in the Coming To America film series. The sequel is set for a December release and will follow the adventures of Murphy as Prince Akeem Joffer. As Akeem is poised to become King of the fictional reign of Zamunda, the prince discovers he has a son, Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler), living in Queens, NYC.

Leslie Jones Stars Opposite Eddie Murphy In 'Coming 2 America'

Jones, known for her multiple appearances on SNL as well as her role on Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters, will play Lavelle’s mother. She looked back on being on set with Murphy, reprising his role after more than 30 years.

“It was insane,” Jones said on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

“We were all in costume, we were ready to do the first scene, and when Eddie came in, in just full Akeem, it was like, surreal,” she continued.

Jones said that working with Murphy immediately brought everyone back to the atmosphere of the original movie, released in 1988. She also said that Murphy “literally looks the same” as he did in the 1980s.

“All of us at that time got chills,” she said.

Leslie Jones Compares Donald Trump To A Child Over Voting Fraud Claims

Jones also spoke up on the US presidential elections, comparing Donald Trump to an “angry child”.

"Have you ever just seen a kid that is just mad because somebody don’t like them?” she said.

“Like, he had this little paper and everything,” she continued, referring to Trump’s baseless claims of voting fraud.

She also said that Trump’s repeated statements are extremely dangerous. Jones fears the president’s unsubstantiated claims might affect “people who are not taking the time to think about the democracy of this country”.

“He’s doing Entertainment 101, that’s all Trump is doing,” she said.

Coming 2 America will be released digitally on Prime Video on December 18, 2020
