Netflix certainly found a runaway success with its original series Stranger Things. In the past, the streaming platform has made superstars out of the likes of Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and Noah Schnapp. In the last few years, it also cemented Maya Hawke’s status as an up-and-coming Hollywood star (although she has already starred alongside Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood).

As fans eagerly await for the last season of Stranger Things to drop, fans may be shocked to know that Maya’s brother, Levon Roan, joined her in the series’ fourth season. Given the competitive nature of Hollywood (and of siblings), this may or may not be a good thing for their relationship. But that entirely depends on how they really feel about each other. Updated on May 22, 2023: Maya Hawke has had a busy year, appearing in 3 movies/TV series in 2022, taking part in a podcast series, and releasing her second album, MOSS. The actress has three more films set to release later this year, with another three titles in various states of production, including the last season of Stranger Things.

Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke has also been working hard, as he dedicated 2022 to his music and 2023 to his acting career. As of now, the rising star has three projects in post-production, two of which are set to release later this year: a miniseries called The Crowded Room and a film entitled The Thicket. Both siblings have been very supportive of each other's passions and careers as they continue to grow.

As many could have guessed, Maya and Levon are the children of Hollywood stars Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. Their parents may have split up years ago, but nonetheless, their family bond remained as strong as can be with both Maya and Levon hanging out on their parent’s sets when they were younger.

“My favorite place to be was on set, behind the camera with headphones on, watching the monitors while my mum and dad did the same scene 100 times over from different angles, just sitting and learning,” Maya once told NME. Now that the kids are older and pursuing their own careers, they understand that their last names can open up opportunities.

“I’m a not-that-famous, not-that-successful young actress, but if I get cast in something, it will get PR,” Maya explained during an interview with Nylon. “Which gives me a massive leg up. It was a massive leg up in getting an agent and a manager. All these sorts of extra things that people don’t think about when they think of people getting roles.”

Meanwhile, amidst everything they’ve managed to do, the siblings have also managed to stay grounded. “I still don’t feel famous,” Maya told W Magazine. “I think the benefit of growing up with famous parents is that the barometer of fame is really high.”

As for Maya and Levon themselves, the siblings have grown incredibly close as they've gotten older. In fact, they’ve made it a point to be together, especially during the holidays. “Levon and I have spent Christmas together every year since he was born in 2002,” the actress wrote in an Instagram post in 2017.

“And I have never loved him more.” And while they may spend a lot of time together, the siblings are not exactly alike. In fact, Maya sees herself as an “aggressive optimist,” while she believes her younger brother is a “passive optimist.”

At the same time, Maya and Levon also appear to be close with their younger half-siblings (they have two half-sisters with their dad and another half-sister with their mom). In fact, both have been pictured hanging out with them. They’ve even taken several family trips together over the years.

Have Maya And Levon Collaborated At All?

Aside from taking on various film and tv roles, Maya has also been busy with her music. As it turns out, she’s discovered that singing and acting go hand in hand. “As soon as I was part of the workforce I realized, even when you’re acting professionally, you have a tremendous amount of downtime whether you’re waiting for a job and auditioning or waiting in the trailer to get to do your job,” she explained.

“That downtime must be filled with some other creative expression – something to keep your mind going, something to keep you off your phone. So that’s when my relationship to music really came back into my life.”

At the same time, Levon has long recognized how important music is to his sister, and he’s been incredibly supportive. In the past, he's even proudly uploaded a music video to promote her new song.

Meanwhile, Maya herself revealed that she and her brother have been working on some songs together lately. If fans must know, Levon is quite a skilled musician himself. “My brother [Levon, 18] is here, and he and I have been writing some music together,” Maya revealed. “I’ll sing a melody, and he’ll figure it out on the electric guitar or keyboard, and we’ll keep exploring.”

Maya Hawke Enjoys Doing Films And Shows With Family

So far, Maya has already worked on Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird with her dad, and she was grateful to be able to work on the same set with him. Meanwhile, when filming for Stranger Things 4, Maya had also been spotted working on the same set as Levon, though he only made a split-second cameo.

Regardless, one can be sure that Maya is thrilled to be working with her family once more. After all, collaborating with them makes the most sense. “Whether a friend or a parent, when you have that kind of intimacy with someone,” the actress explained. “Turning to someone else feels like cheating.”
