Payne recently revealed that he had spoken to former bandmate, Louis Tomlinson, about the band's future. When asked about a potential reunion, he told The Mirror: "'I spoke to Louis about it and we were saying it has to be sooner rather than later."

Many fans on Twitter are excited about the news and reshared it.

Some fans were a bit more skeptical and stated that they aren't getting excited over news of a reunion this time.

Fans were disappointed that the band did not reunite for their 10th anniversary in 2020. So, it's not difficult to see why some are hesitant to get their hopes up once again.

Payne previously teased a reunion of the band, saying in an Instagram Live in June: "I'd love for us to get in a room at some point, I think it would be the best thing."

Even Simon Cowell, who formed the group on The X-Factor, told The Mirror in June: "I think it will happen. If they got together, whether it's making records again or touring, it would be the most amazing thing."

Zayn Malik quit One Direction in March 2015 to pursue a solo career, and the remaining four members gave their last performance in December 2015. Since then, fans have been holding out for a reunion. In May, Niall Horan said that talks for a reunion had stalled, saying on The Jonathan Ross Show he wouldn't want to do it "unless everybody was completely in" and that all "having the same opinion about it would be hard."
