Ever wondered what it would be like to live in one of those miniature houses? These tiny dwellings are all the rage right now, with many millennials opting for a simpler and more minimalist lifestyle. But how would it actually feel to live inside of one? Deviating from convention can sometimes work out well, but sometimes it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. So while living in a confined space might work for some people, it isn’t going to work for everyone.

For anyone interested in the whole concept of tiny house living, read what these 15 individuals have to say about it. If anyone is going to give people a clear insight into what it’s really like to live in such a small space, it’s going to be the people who wake up in that scenario every day.

15 Not too shabby for a Bitcoin millionaire

Did you know this whole thing has a name? It’s called the "tiny house movement" and more and more people are joining up. Surprisingly, this lifestyle isn’t just intriguing to financially unstable people. As a matter of fact, tiny living is a concept that appeals to millionaires. Take this person, for instance. They’re a Bitcoin millionaire, but instead of cashing out and spending their riches on a mansion with a pool, they’ve chosen to life off the grid in a tiny house and embrace the simpler lifestyle. And when we say simple, we’re talking a house no larger than 400 square feet. This individual clearly doesn’t have any money worries, but they don’t want to live an affluent lifestyle. That, for them, is just not interesting. Tiny living, on the other hand, is.

14 This is what it really means to be self-sufficient

Via: Whisper.sh

When most people refer to themselves as ''self-sufficient,'' they mean something along the lines of being capable of taking out their own trash. But if you want to see the real definition of self-sufficient, it lies in this individual. They built their tiny house themselves with all the necessities like solar, propane, a composting toilet and water collection. If you want to know what it really means to be self-sufficient, it’s being able to do all of those things. Not many people can say they’ve done the same. Not many people would be willing to do the same. This person deserves a medal for their amazing work. And they seem really content with their off grid lifestyle in their self-built tiny home. It doesn’t get better than that.

13 But it gets better...

Via: Whisper.sh

If you thought that was impressive, you’re going to need to hear this. Building a tiny home from a shipping container? That sounds fascinating. We would absolutely love to see it in real life! And it’s such a smart idea. This person obviously thought it through when making this house. Not only can they transport it around the country easily but they can also move it over the ocean. Shipping a house could never get any simpler. This person can literally live wherever they want without being forced to find another home every time they wanted to relocate. They can take their home overseas with them, too. It actually sounds easier than taking your pet abroad with you. We doubt they need a tiny house passport to take their home over the ocean.

12 Now for the downsides

Via: Whisper.sh

Gross but nonetheless a fact, we take it this could be problematic when living in such a tiny space. But if you can handle the strong odor, we think you’ll be able to handle this small grievance and move on. When you’re living in a space of 100 square feet or so, what do you expect? It’s probably just a good idea to stick to a clean diet where you’re going to be less prone to excess flatulence. Everything has its downsides and nothing can be perfect, so it’s not like we weren’t expecting the tiny house movement to come with its complaints. We weren’t expecting to hear this one though nonetheless. Still, it’s something to bear in mind if you consider adopting the Thumbelina-esque lifestyle.

11 They’re not laughing now

Via: Whisper.sh

It’s immature of people to laugh at this woman for her way of living. Actually, it’s pretty stupid that they would find it funny in the first place. This person may be living in a tiny house, but they are debt-free, have a roof over their head and they’re only in their 20s. Not many people can say the same. So why are they laughing? They should be admiring this person instead. Still, now this person has said all that, we doubt those people will be laughing now. When they re-evaluate their empty bank account and their stack of bills on the coffee table, we can’t see how they could possibly look down on this individual. They sound pretty smart to us. Keep doing what you’re doing.

10 No more sleepovers

Via: Whisper.sh

When you move into a tiny house, you can kiss sleepovers good-bye. When the average tiny house is somewhere between 100 and 400 square feet, you’re only just going to have enough space for yourself. Inviting friends over for sleepovers at your minuscule dwelling just isn’t going to be an option unless you’re all happy to stand and sleep shoulder to shoulder the whole time. This person doesn’t seem to mind making the sacrifice. They love their tiny house and they love their tiny rooms. Hey, at least they have space for the occasional one-person sleepovers. If you want bigger sleepovers, you’re just going to have to invite yourself over to someone else’s house instead. If they’re not also living in a tiny house, that is.

9 9-to-5 monotony no more

Via: Whisper.sh

It’s true what this person says. The small living lifestyle isn’t for everyone because not everyone wants to live an off-grid lifestyle. Many people feel safe with their 9-to-5 jobs and the other conventions that make up their life: paying rent, utility bills and water bills. But that’s not what this person wanted from their life. They wanted something else, something better. And so they chose the tiny living lifestyle. People join this movement for many reasons and one of the most popular reasons includes the desire for more freedom. This person wanted to escape the monotony of their 9-to-5 job for a life off the grid, where they no longer have to worry about work, rent and other bills. They also like the sustainable factor of the lifestyle.

8 Quality over quantity

You could live in a luxurious mansion with a swimming pool, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be happy. For some people, happiness comes from their way of life and this person discovered that they experienced far more happiness in their 750 square foot home than they ever did in their 3,000 square foot house. Conjuring up an educated guess, we presume this person grew up in a large home, but that their childhood wasn’t a happy one. Now they’re living the life they want to live and, in spite of the drastic downsizing, they’ve never been happier. This person isn’t the only person to discover the joy that can be found in simpler living. That’s a big reason for the rising popularity in tiny living.

7 Living off the grid requires a few survival skills

Via: Whisper.sh

This person sounds like they’re in the process of building their tiny house. From what we’ve learned in these confessions, it seems as though many people who adopt the tiny living lifestyle build their own houses. Frankly, we think it sounds like a daunting task that we’d rather not get involved in. But for people who want to start a new life and live off the grid, why not go one step further and build your own house? At least you can make it the way you want it. And this guy is ex-military so it sounds like he knows what he is doing. Like he says, his military survival skills should come in handy whilst building this house. Anyone who decides to live off the grid needs to possess at least a few survival skills.

6 There are proud owners

Via: Whisper.sh

You’ll see that most of the tiny homeowners on here are proud of their homes and their way of life. They’re aware that the concept is smart and that, in a number of ways, they are way better off than most other people. This individual is one of those people. They’re building their tiny home and they can’t wait to finish it. But that doesn’t mean they’re not aware that people have their opinions on the lifestyle. Fortunately, this person couldn’t care less. At least they can call this their home and do whatever they like to it, without having to live by their landlord’s rules. Not everybody can say the same. With off the grid living there comes freedom and who doesn’t want freedom?

5 And then there are not so proud homeowners

Via: Whisper.sh

But not everyone is so proud of their lifestyle. This person, for example, admits that they sometimes feel ashamed of their tiny home and of what people will think of it. Why do they even care? This person built their own home...that is pretty admirable in our opinion and we’re sure that, while some people will have their opinions, many people will share the same mindset as us. Not everyone has the guts to walk away from their conventional lifestyle to live off grid in their self-built home. Tiny houses come in various shapes and sizes and they’re all about simpler living. If people can’t get on board with that, you can show them where the door is. It’s not like it’s going to take long to kick them out, is it?

4 That’s some achievement

Via: Whisper.sh

Did you know that for the majority of Americans, ½ of their income goes on paying for the roof over their heads? That means they spend 15 years of their life working just to pay for their home. As a result, 76 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. That sounds pretty undesirable to us. What doesn’t sound desirable, however, is living debt-free in a tiny house. Tiny houses may not be for everyone, but they certainly have their benefits. Not only is this person living a less demanding lifestyle in their tiny home, they were also able to built and design it exactly the way they wanted it. Of course they should be proud of themselves! That is some achievement that not many people can compete with.

3 Logical!

Via: Whisper.sh

What’s the point in working two jobs to pay for an apartment you never use? It sounds like a waste of time and money to us. Sometimes in life, you have to figure out what is logical and what is not. Sure, maybe everyone around you is doing the same thing. Maybe your neighbour is working 10 hour shifts to pay rent on the home they’re never in. But that doesn’t mean it’s the right way. There is no right way. Not really. You just have to find the way that suits you and if that means living off the grid in a tiny house, why not? Go for it if you think it will make you happy. For this person, it sounds like the more logical option.

2 Home sweet home

Via: Whisper.sh

Home, as they say, is where the heart is and this person’s heart clearly lies in their tiny home. It may only measure 250 sq. Ft. But great things come in small sizes and this is definitely the case for this individual. Most people want to buy a big house with dozens of rooms and lots of space, but for some people that isn’t a priority. Buying a tiny home might not be something that would interest you, but for this person it’s enough. They think their tiny home is perfect and they sound like they could not be happier with it. Sometimes you just have to figure out what you want and what you need and go from there. You may come to realize, just like this person did, that you don’t need so much space after all.

1 Tiny doesn’t always mean easy

Via: Whisper.sh

While this person loves their tiny house, they’re the first to admit that it was a nightmare to build. For some people, the building side of tiny living is a great thrill and they enjoy every moment of it. This person doesn’t sound like much of a building enthusiast. We can’t judge though. We don’t have the first clue how to build a home and to be perfectly honest, we don’t think we’d appreciate the task very much. We’d prefer to hire someone to build it for us. It’s just way easier. So you see, there are advantages and disadvantages to tiny living. But the majority of home-owners sound content with their lifestyle and don’t have any complaints. Whether they do it for financial, environmental or other personal reasons, many people around the world are embracing and loving their teeny, tiny lifestyle.
