Throughout her entire life, Lily-Rose Depp has remained in the spotlight. It’s just something you have to live with when you have famous parents (her mom is model/actress Vanessa Paradis and her father is, of course, Johnny Depp). Lily-Rose may have come from Hollywood royalty, but she has been working hard to make her own mark. To date, she’s become a Netflix star in her own right, even appearing in a Netflix film produced by Oscar winner Brad Pitt.

As fans would know, however, Lily-Rose has also had to deal with a lot of things in recent years. For starters, the actress has had to defend her own father after getting ‘canceled’ by Hollywood following accusations from ex Amber Heard. At the same time, Lily-Rose got caught up in some controversy herself and some believe it almost got the actress canceled herself.

Why Did Hollywood Try To Cancel Lily-Rose Depp?

For Lily-Rose, it wasn’t too hard to stay out of trouble growing up. And she believes that’s mostly because of the way her famous parents raised her. “My parents weren’t very strict,” the actress told Vogue. “They’ve always trusted me to be independent and make my own decisions. There wasn’t really anything to rebel against.”

As it turns out, however, you don’t have to be a rebel to stir drama in Hollywood. Just last year, someone accused Lily-Rose of being a racist and as expected, social media blew up. The accusations were coming from a young woman on Instagram named Ama Eliana Oshun Elsesser. She claimed to have gone to school with Lily-Rose.

According to Elsesser, the actress and her friends had been mean towards her. “One of them RECENTLY SAID I COULDN’T SPEAK PROPER ENGLISH?!?! Lmfao,” one post read. She also posted, “And I can say that cause she is filthy rich white has 2 celebrity parents and has said numerous problematic and racist things ….. so me saying she look like alien ain’t s**** compared to what she’s said about black women.”

At the same time, Elsesser also accused Lily-Rose of taking drugs, writing, “If you from la [sic] you know she only got white friends and does coke in the valley all day!” Soon after, the hashtag #lilyrosedeppisoverparty started trending. Despite this, however, fans rallied around Lily-Rose. For many, it immediately became clear that the actress was the victim.

Here’s Why Lily-Rose Depp Wasn't Canceled

Fans were definitely shocked when racism accusations against Lily-Rose were brought forward. However, they were also quick to point that Elsesser’s claims against the actress have no factual basis. And so, they rallied around the actress. One user wrote, “So the whole cause of the #LilyRoseDeppisoverparty all started because of this random a** SS... seriously... Twitter is filled with such idiots... get real!... I see no proof of racism. Imagine believing a random person making an accusation with 0 proof.” At the same time, Lily-Rose’s friend, True Whitaker (the daughter of actor Forest Whitaker), defended the actress, saying, “I spoke out because I’ve watched many people in my life fall victim to Ama.”

Meanwhile, Lily-Rose herself never addressed Elsesser. In doing so, the issue eventually died down. At the same time, the actress’ decision to ignore Elsesser may have led people to question the social media personality’s credibility. In recent months, Elsesser has not posted any more messages that seem to target Lily-Rose.

This Is How Lily-Rose Depp Is Shutting Down Trolls

As a daughter of Hollywood celebrities, Lily-Rose knows a lot about being a public figure. “I’m obviously used to the media attention because I grew up with it, but my parents shielded me and my brother as much as they could,” the actress once told Vogue. That said, she also acknowledges that the fascination around her has intensified in recent years. “You can usually spot them in the bushes,” she said of the paparazzi. “It’s only recently that they’ve gotten more interested in the dull things that I do. It’s so uninteresting. I got coffee!”

Instead of acknowledging the gossip around her, Lily-Rose chooses to focus on what’s really important, her work. She loves that acting allows her to disappear into characters. “When you’re an actor, your job is to be able to morph into different characters and be seen as someone completely separate from yourself,” the actress explained. “You forget everything and put yourself in that person’s shoes.” While speaking with W Magazine, Lily-Rose also remarked, “The more I learned about how important it is to know your character so well, the less I thought about myself as part of the equation.”

At the same time, Lily-Rose also realized that she had to be more careful about sharing stuff on social media, specifically to her 4.9 million followers on Instagram. “I’ve really stopped using it in a personal way. I never like revealing too much about myself,” she explained. “Once you start giving people that look into your life, then they just want more and more.”
