Model and actress Lily-Rose Depp stars as the lead in HBO’s upcoming series The Idol. She is the eldest child and only daughter of actors Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, although now she making a name for herself in the industry.

She was born in Paris back in 1999 — but split her time between the French capital and Hollywood. She also has a younger brother, Jack John Christopher Depp III who mostly stays out of the spotlight.

Although her parents split when she was just 13 years old, Lily-Rose has called her teenage years relaxed and easy-going. “My parents weren’t very strict. They’ve always trusted me to be independent and make my own decisions. There wasn’t really anything to rebel against"

While Johnny Depp has admitted he was “quite worried” about Lily-Rose’s career in fashion, The Idol actress said her parents were fully supportive of her leaving school at 17 years old to pursue acting.

“They both left school when they were 15, so they can’t really say anything. I never thought of university as my goal. I’ve always just wanted to work.”

Despite her parent's casual attitude, Lily-Rose claims to be a homebody who prefers watching documentaries and cooking shows over partying. “I’m not really a club-goer. I’m really a chilled person. I like staying at home. I honestly watch cooking shows more than anything.”

In 2016, after Amber Heard filed a restraining order against Johnny Depp, Lily-Rose posted a sweet message about him.

“My dad is the sweetest most loving person I know, he’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same,” the now-deleted Instagram caption read.

The King actress was asked by ET if she would work with her father again after appearing in Yoga Hosier together. Lily-Rose admitted that it isn’t something she’s considering “first and foremost,” though she isn’t ruling it out completely.

Johnny has always spoken fondly of his daughter. During an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," the Pirates of the Caribbean actor gushed about his relationship with Lily-Rose. "She's amazing," he told the host. "The problem is she's infinitely more sophisticated than I am. She can run circles around me, and she knows that she's got me wrapped around her pinky."

During a 2015 interview with the Daily Mail, Johnny described her as a "sharp kid" for her age. "It's such a funny thing when you see your daughter transitioning from your baby, your little girl, to suddenly being a young woman," he said.

Lily-Rose grew up idolizing her mother, the singer, model and actress Vanessa Paradis "When I was little, I wanted to be a singer, just because I wanted to be like Mum. Every little girl wants to be like her mum," she told The Sun in 2019.

"I would try on all of her dresses and shoes, even though I was in diapers at the time," she added. "There's actually a picture of me in a diaper wearing Chanel pumps."

Even now, Lily-Rose views her mother as a style icon and fashion inspiration. "Whenever I see old photos of her, I'm like, 'Ugh. That's what I look like in my dreams,'" Depp told i-D in February 2023. "She'll send me photos of her when she was younger, and say things like, 'We're twins.' And I'm like, 'You're so much prettier than me.' She's so beautiful."

She also thanks her French mother for teaching her about confidence. "I grew up being, like, topless on the beach. I was raised by a French mother who taught me that there was nothing shameful about your body."

It's very clear Lily-Rose idolizes her effortlessly cool mother. "It was really cool for me and my brother to see our mom being the ultimate comforting and loving person, but also having such a rich, full life of her own, watching her go onstage and sing for thousands of people, and just be so in her own zone and in touch with herself and her art,"

Despite her father being involved in one of the most famous celebrity trials, Lily-Rose maintains her silence.

“When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal … I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts,” the actress said to Elle in December 2022.

She also keeps quiet because she wants to be respected for her own talent and not because of the men she is associated with. “I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever,” she explained. “And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.”

According to Johnny Depp, things between Lily-Rose and his then-wife Amber were tense. “My daughter Lily-Rose did not come to the wedding,” the Finding Neverland actor said during an April 2022 court testimony. “She and Ms. Heard were not on particularly great terms, for several reasons.”

Years later, during her own court testimony, Amber expressed feeling “protective” of Lily-Rose. "I felt protective over Lily-Rose and concerned, and naturally they were not my children, it’s not my place and I understand that, I know it’s a sensitive subject, so I understand why Johnny got so upset with me,” she said on the stand.

Lily-Rose believes in maintaining her privacy, something that comes from having famous parents. “My parents protected my brother, [Jack], and me from it as much as possible. I’ve just been raised in a manner that has taught me that privacy is something that’s important to protect.” This may be the reason she has yet to make her opinions public about his marriage to Heard or the trials that followed.
