16 Met At Charity Hockey Game

Candace met her future husband to be at a charity hockey game, which makes sense since he was a pro hockey player. It was her Full House co-star Dave Coulier, Uncle Joey, who introduced them as he was always playing in the game at the time. So is it safe to say Candace was a puck bunny?

15 Candace Was Just 19

When Candace met Valeri, she was just 19 years old at the time. She even says she hadn’t even had a high school boyfriend because obviously her acting career took up a lot of her time and didn’t give her that normal life. So it was one and done for the former DJ Tanner in her love life.

14 Quick First Date

It didn’t take long for Candace and Valeri to go on their first date. In fact, after the charity hockey game, they waited about 24 hours. What ever happened to waiting three days to call someone you like so as not to look desperate? Considering they were both heading in different directions, it was smart to get he first date out of the way quickly.

13 Four Months Between Dates

After their first date, they wouldn’t see each other again for four months. No, there was no cooling off period, Valeri was just busy in the NHL and Candace with acting. But they talked on the phone and did phone dating for a while, which they said helped them really get to know each other on a deeper level.

12 Married Just As Fast

Considering they didn’t see each other for four months, getting engaged after only a year of meeting sounds extremely fast. And they were married a year after that as well, making it two years from puck drop to alter. That’s pretty normal for celebrities but normally ends in divorce. I guess those phone calls really did help them get to know each other.

11 Valeri Is The Chef

Candace was the stay at home mom, but she will admit that Valeri is the one that does the vast majority of the cooking in the house. She said that he does 98% of the cooking for the family and she makes sure the kids are well aware of it and that they thank him for the meals that he makes.

10 Make Time For Date Night

In order to keep their marriage strong, they say they make time for each other every single week, either going out for a date night or catching up with a lunch or going on a vacation alone. The most important thing to them is keeping their relationship fresh and their friendship alive, which has helped their marriage.

Obviously hockey is important to Valeri and his sons have picked up the game as well and he sees it as a big part of their life. But Candace doesn’t see it that way and just sees it as another activity that shouldn’t interrupt family time or bible study. Candace admitted in an interview on the View that the because they are away from each other a lot, they make a lot of effort to keep the fires burning in the bedroom at home. And she means, a lot. She says after 22 years of marriage, she still gets turned on the same way, if not more now than before.

7 Full House Taught Val English

Valeri knew his future wife before he met her, as he actually learned the English language from watching Full House on television. So DJ Tanner is the reason the Russian is speaking English today. Who would have guessed that he can credit his own wife for learning a new language before he even met her.

6 Kissing Other Men

Being an actress, Candace sometimes has to get romantic with other men on screen. While she won’t do any explicit scenes, kissing does happen, and she says Valeri refuses to watch any of the movies that she is in that she kisses another man. He just doesn’t want to see that and she respects his wishes and tells him when those movies come up.

5 Retired For His Wife’s Career

Valeri had back surgery in 2015 and could have made a return to the NHL, but decided to retire from the game to spend more time at home so Candace could go back to acting. She had been the stay at home mom for years while he played hockey, so now he was returning the favor so she could go back to her dreams.

4 She Is Submissive

Candace gets a lot of criticism for being very submissive and saying openly that she is submissive to her husband, who is very controlling, even thanking him for things he does. She says, even though she has a dominating personality as well, that she is submissive to make her marriage and family work.

3 Their Beliefs Are Very Important To Them

The main thing both Valeri and Candace say keeps their marriage strong is their belief in God and the bible. In fact, it’s one thing Candace says should come over hockey. Don’t tell the hockey gods that! The bible to them is the foundation of their relationship and their family life.

2 They Own A Winery

When Valeri retired, he wanted something to get into. So what does someone in Malibu do? Open a winery of course. So with his wife, the Bure’s open Bure Family Wines in Napa Valley, home to some of the best wines in the world. Not a bad family business to have on the side.

1 Their Daughter Was Picked On The Voice

Their eldest daughter Natasha, who is 21 years old now, was actually picked on the Voice for season 11 at the age of 18. She was picked by Adam Lambert, but she didn’t last very long, appearing in Episode 5 where she sang “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and was eliminated by Episode 7, losing to Riley Elmore during the “Cry Me A River’ song battle.
