Lourdes Leon is having a moment.

She's following in mama Madonna's footsteps by boldly championing a woman's right to wear whatever she wants, including armpit hair. She's building up a dating history of famous men, including Timothée Chalamet. Now she's on the cover of Vogue- but some people aren't thrilled about that.

Here's what people have criticized about Lourdes' modelling career, along with what she herself has to say about it.

Lourdes Got Her First 'Vogue' Cover

This weekend saw the release of Vogue's September Issue cover. That month always features Vogue's biggest and brightest issue, so fashion lovers and magazine devotees (think Carrie Bradshaw) look forward to September's issue every year.

This year Vogue's special September cover features 'The Models Who Make the Moment:' a handful of pros including Kaia Gerber, Bella Hadid, and Lourdes. Reception on Twitter is a mix of opinions about the cover shoot looking like '13 Going on 30' and its stars (specifically Lourdes) having uncomfortably famous moms.

"I think it’s a mess and reeks of nepotism," reads one Tweet. "looking back at my issues from 2006-2012 this doesn’t even come close to what Vogue used to be. Respectfully."

Other Tweets like "nepotism it is" and "my friend called this 'inclusive nepotism'" show fans of the magazine criticizing how the models landed the cover in the first place. This sounding familiar to anyone else, or..?

She Talks Nepotism In the Interview

The actual Vogue interview includes discussion from Lourdes herself about this nepotism issue.

"People think I‘m this talentless rich kid who’s had everything given to her, but I’m not," she explains. She goes on to say that she paid her own college tuition and chooses to live not in Madonna's LA mansion but in her own space in the chill (yet hugely expensive) NYC borough of Bushwick.

Lourdes studied dance at the University of Michigan, and showcases her training often on her IG:

Now Her Comments Are Off

As of this weekend, Lourdes has disabled comments on all posts she's made about her Vogue experience on her socials. Despite not engaging with fan questions about her modelling career (Lourdes has also disabled comments on posts about her campaigns with Burberry like the one above) the dancer/model/famous 24 year old doesn't seem to have too many words for the haters.

Her IG Stories this weekend DID include a reposting of this TikTok about unsolicited online judgement, though:

"Some of you have the asinine preconceived notion...it's your right to be disrespectful, disguising it as your opinion," the video's creator states. "Narcissism."

Is that a subtle dig at Lourdes' own haters? We'd guess yes.

Her next IG Story was a cheeky pic of her and a friend enjoying the sunshine in their bikinis with the caption 'Rockaway gorls," so at least she's leaving the drama online and living her life.
