In 2010, Eminem and Rihanna shared an interesting take about love. Love the Way You Lie, the second single from Eminem's seventh multi-platinum-selling album, Recovery, saw both pop culture heavyweights reflect on Bonnie-and-Clyde-like abusive relationships with their respective ex-lovers.

The song was somewhat personal, unique, and sensitive for both. Eminem and his longtime high school sweetheart Kimberly Scott had a tumultuous and rocky relationship, and it's well-documented throughout his songs. On the other hand, Rihanna was on the headlines of almost every publication for then-boyfriend Chris Brown's assault against her.

"The most important thing the video is doing is raising the topic of dating violence among young people," Stephanie Nilva, executive director of sexual assault and trauma resource center Day One, told MTV News about the four-minutes power-ballad track. "That the message is not 'Don't you want a relationship like mine?' The message is a warning sign."

It might have been ten years since its release, but the song is still worth every listen. Here are how Love the Way You Lie performed commercially and 11 other facts about it.

11 The Original Version Was Written By Skylar Grey In Less Than 15 Minutes

The original version of Love the Way You Lie was written by Skylar Grey, who was famous as Holly Brook from Linkin Park's Fort Minor 2006 hip-hop ballad, Where'd You Go.

"My abusive relationship with the music industry was one of my inspirations for the hook. I also had a bad relationship with a guy, simultaneously to me getting beat up by the music industry," Skylar took to her official Genius page to explain the creative approach behind the song.

"He wasn't physically beating me up, but he was a very difficult person," she added. "Looking back, he was an asshole, and the reason I cried every day. But at the time, the way that he made me cry and was mean to me made me fight harder to keep the relationship, which is totally sick."

10 Familiar With These Faces?

If you're familiar with the faces on Love the Way You Lie music video, the chance is you've seen them somewhere else: Transformers actress Megan Fox and Lost regular, Dominic Monaghan.

"All his motivation, every forward step that he takes is based on his anger," he said of the character, as reported by MTV. "We're supposed to be desperately in love, like Bonnie and Clyde style, like Sid and Nancy, John and Yoko ... Eminem and Kim."

Megan, on the other hand, has always been a fan of the rapper. "I've talked to him on the phone, and you know, I've never been starstruck, but I've never been so sweaty talking to someone in my life," she told Sway Calloway of Shade 45. "I was so nervous talking to him, 'cause I feel that if you make one wrong move with him, you get featured on his next album."

9 Rihanna Was 'Shocked' When Eminem Asked Her To Team Up

For BadGalRiRi, she was shocked when Eminem wanted to do a song with her.

"I was like, 'What? Eminem wants to do a song with a pop artist? With me?' 'Cause, you know, he always raps and talks sh*t about pop artists and pop female artists," she told MTV News.

"This song, it gave a voice to victims, but what I really enjoy about this song is not only how cleverly written it is, she added, "but the fact that (Eminem) confronts himself on this record is the biggest thing for me."

8 Rihanna On LTWYL: It Was Authentic

Sometimes, the best art comes from the darkest place, and this catharsis process is Love the Way You Lie is all about.

"It's something that, you know, (Eminem and I have) both experienced, you know, on different sides, different ends of the table," Rihanna said.

"It just was authentic. It was real. It was believable for us to do a record like that, but it was also something that needed to be done, and the way he did it was so clever," she added. "He pretty much just broke down the cycle of domestic violence, and it's something that a lot of people don't have a lot of insight on, so this song is a really, really powerful song, and it touches a lot of people."

7 The Concept Of LTWYL Music Video, In The Director's Own Words

Good music videos convey the message musicians want to convey throughout their songs. Eminem's longtime collaborator, Joseph Kahn, was the evil genius behind Love the Way You Lie music video. But according to him, the characters on the video are not meant to be biographical.

"There are definitely things in both Rihanna and Eminem's (lives) that we have to be very sensitive about when we were making this video, (but) it's not a story about Eminem or Rihanna," he told MTV. "It's a specific thing that I created for Dominic and Megan to play two people with very specific storylines to each other. These are fictional characters in my head but obviously based on real human beings."

6 Dominic Monaghan Was Injured While On The Set

Unlucky for the music video's actor, Dominic Monaghan didn't make it out of the set without any scars. The Lost actor reportedly injured his knee and his had during the shoot as he had to 'punch' his co-star more than 50 times.

"I get to throw Megan around quite a lot ... throw her up against the wall and then she throws me up against a wall and smacks me in the face and spits in my face ... and I chase her around the house and smash windows and walls," he told MTV.

Imagine how intense the set was.

5 LTWYL Was The First Song With 'Love' In Its Title To Top The Billboard Charts In Two Years

Before Eminem and Rihanna, it was British crooner Leona Lewis who spent four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 with Bleeding Love from her breakthrough debut album, Spirit, in 2007. It was proceeded by Usher's club-jam Love in This Club featuring Young Jeezy from his fifth studio album, Here I Stand.

4 It Wasn't The First Time Joseph Kahn Collaborated With Eminem

The Korean-American director, whose real name is Ahn Jun-hee, had worked with the rapper way back in 2002 on the music video for Without Me for The Eminem Show album. Their collaboration didn't stop there, as in 2017, the two scored another mega-hit, Bodied. It was a battle-rap comedy-drama, produced by Eminem himself!

"I made the movie, showed it to him, and he loved it. Then he decided to come on board, and he helped us put the deal together," he said, as reported by The Detroit News. "He protected us."

3 And, Again, It Surely Wasn't The First Time Eminem Had Something Interesting To Say About Love

Over 20 years of his career, the world Eminem paints on his canvas is somewhat dangerous. If Love the Way You Lie triggers you, well, it indeed wasn't the first time Eminem had something interesting to say about love. Take Kim as an example, the sixteenth, over-the-top track from his 2000 magnum-opus The Marshall Mathers LP, where he freely imagines himself killing Kim by slitting her throat. He barely sounds human anymore.

"I remember I was watching a movie one day that inspired me to write a love song, but I didn't want to make a corny love song. It had to be some bugged-out sh*t," Eminem wrote in his Angry Blonde autobiography. "I remember my dumb-ass saying (to Kim) "I know this is a fu*ked-up song, but it shows how much I care about you. To even think about you this much. To even put you in a song like this."

2 There's A Part Two Of LTWYL

There's a part two of Love the Way You Lie, sung from a female's point of view. Love the Way You Lie (Part II) is the eleventh track from Rihanna's 2010 album, Loud, which was released four months after the single. The part three, or the original demo version, is also available on Skylar's Grey 2013 album, Don't Look Down.

"When I first heard the idea about doing a part two, I was just completely against it," the Barbadian singer told MTV News. "I just felt like you couldn't beat the original. There's no way you can outdo that, so why compete with it?"

"We heard a broken-down version that was stripped down, just piano ... that's going to be a bonus on iTunes," she added. "I fell in love with it. We recorded it, then we did another version to the stripped-down version with drums, then we did another version with drums and Eminem."
