Madonna Louise Ciccone is in a lane all by herself.

The pop superstar has sold over 300 million records worldwide, with hits like "Material Girl" and "Like A Virgin." She earned the title "Queen of Pop" after becoming the most successful solo artist in the history of the United States. But like they say "well-behaved women seldom make history.” Madonna has always pushed the bar when it comes to her style and music.

In 1985, Penthouse and Playboy magazines published a number of nude photos of Madonna, taken when she was a struggling artist. A strong-willed Madonna refused to apologize for doing what she needed to do to succeed. In 1989, Madonna's video for "Like a Prayer" was condemned by the Vatican for its "blasphemous use of Christian imagery." Pope John Paul II even encouraged fans to boycott the singer in Italy.

Here are just a few of Madonna's wildest moments...

*That* VMA Kiss With Britney Spears That Rocked The World

Back in 2003, social media was still in its infancy. So if you wanted to catch your favorite stars, the MTV Video Music Awards were must-watch television.

When the show opened with pop princesses Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera along with pop matriarch Madonna - fans watched open-mouthed. Spears and Aguilera pranced around the stage with matching barely-there wedding dresses.

Madonna soon popped out of a cake in a tuxedo - as Spears and Aguilera danced seductively with her. If our mouths were opened before, they dropped to the floor when Madonna kissed both women. If that wasn't enough for our eyes, the camera then panned to Spears' ex-boyfriend - singer Justin Timberlake. The N*SYNC star certainly did not look amused as he gave his ex the death stare...

Madonna planted a huge sloppy kiss on rapper Drake

Madonna has made it her mission to connect with every generation. In 2015, Madge appeared at the 2015 Coachella festival. After performing a medley of her song "Hung Up" and "Human Nature," she walked over to Canadian rapper Drake. As he casually sat on a chair, the "Ray Of Light" singer planted a long kiss on Drake's lips. After the surprise kiss, Drake looked completely grossed out. He quickly wiped his mouth like she'd thrown up in it. "What the f*** just happened?" the "Over" rapper exasperatedly asked the crowd.

A few days later, Madonna went live on Instagram and answered some fan questions. When someone asked if Drake was a good kisser, Madonna answered, “I kissed a girl and I liked it.” Later she was asked if she had any advice to give her younger self. Pouring herself a glass of wine, a peeved Madonna said, “Don’t kiss Drake, no matter how many times he begs you to.”

However, Drake clarified his apparent disgusted reaction to the kiss on his own Instagram page. "Don't misinterpret my shock!!" he wrote. "I got to make out with the queen Madonna." A source told TMZ later that Drake was not a fan of the lipstick Madonna was wearing which was the reason for his visceral response. "Drake said he wasn't disgusted by the kiss, he actually loved it. He said he was disgusted by the after-taste of her lipstick."

"Sex" sold over 150,000 copies on its first day, and remains the fastest-selling coffee table book. Sex topped the New York Times Best Seller list and went on to sell more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.

However, it received negative reviews from critics and even some fans who thought Madonna had gone "too far." The New York Times wrote at the time, "Of course, some of us actually like the opposite sex; some of us believe it is possible to have great sex without whips, third parties, or domestic pets," adding, "Maybe 'Sex' can be a warning about what happens when pop icons become bloated, one way or another." Again a defiant Madonna refused to apologize.

But in recent years, "Sex" has received a more positive response. "Sex" is now praised for its "social and cultural impact."It has since become one of the most sought-after out-of-print books.
