Plenty of cast members from 'Malcolm in the Middle' have gone on to other very different projects. True, he almost passed on the role of Walter in 'Breaking Bad,' but Bryan Cranston wound up moving in a completely different direction from his role as Malcolm's dad.
And Malcolm's younger brother Dewey ducked out of the spotlight, with the actor who portrayed him retiring back in 2010. Of course, fans know that Malcolm himself, Frankie Muniz, has had plenty of adventures since the show wrapped. Not only is he worth a ton of cash, but he's also earned media attention for calling out Lizzo (he wants to be her purse) and for becoming a race car driver.
But what about the other actors on the show? For example, Malcolm's older brother Reese?
Actor Justin Berfield played Reese, the older sibling who made Frankie's life miserable. At least, he did when the two (plus their other younger sibling) weren't getting into trouble together.
So what happened to Justin post-'Malcolm,' and what's he doing now?
Though Berfield dabbled in a few other roles while working on the sitcom that made him famous, he hasn't done a ton of acting since. 'Malcolm in the Middle' ran from 2000 to 2006, and in that time, Justin had a few guest roles in films and TV shows and also a direct-to-video movie.
But after that? He started working on the production side of things. He has credits as a screenwriter, producer, director, and actor, with his last project wrapping up in 2012, per IMDb. But he's not finished yet; per IMDb, his next project as a producer is set to be 'Muscle Shoals,' a TBD TV series.
Apart from his professional goals, Justin's also fulfilled what appears to be a personal dream of his: he's become a dad. Justin married his wife Liza and the pair welcomed a daughter in early 2020. Berfield's Instagram proudly declares "Dad/Actor," and his feed is littered with photos of his daughter (with her face hidden).
In between snapshots of his dad life, Justin throws it back to his 'Malcolm' days, including a table read event for charity. And when he's not dadding at home, Berfield appears to enjoy fishing, skiing, and other outdoor activities.
Though he doesn't discuss his projects much on social media, according to his Wikipedia page, Berfield is the Chief Creative Officer of Virgin Produced, a production company overseen by the Virgin Group. Justin also participates in charitable events with Virgin, which seems like the perfect blend of dipping into creative projects while also exploring philanthropy.
He sure has come a long way from being the big brother/bully Reese to Frankie Muniz's Malcolm!
