If the storyline of two brothers fighting against demons, ghosts, vampires, and many other supernatural creatures isn't a good enough reason for someone to start watching Supernatural, then here's another good reason to watch: Jared Padalecki.

Jared is best known for this particular role in Supernatural, but also for his roles in Gilmore Girls, Friday the 13th, and House of Wax. As you will see in this article, Jared is basically perfect — not only is he very handsome, but he's also a very good person. However, his life is not as perfect as fans may think.

There are many things about him that prove he's not like every other actor in Hollywood, and most of those things are unknown — even to his fans (let alone to people who occasionally watch Supernatural). So, here are 15 things you probably never knew about Jared Padalecki

15 Jared Met His Wife On The Set Of 'Supernatural'

Jared met his wife, Genevieve Cortese, back in 2009, when she joined the cast of Supernatural as a demon named Ruby. To be honest, this character is probably one of the most loved evil characters of this franchise. Anyhow, Jared instantly fell in love with her. And she — she was upset that he interrupted her while she was reading her book. He remembers: "I was very excited to meet her. Meanwhile, I think she was like, 'Who is this long-haired A-hole who thinks he can come talk to me while I'm reading a book?' . . . I interrupted her while she was reading a book and I think she got kind of fussy about it."

And today, Jared and Genevieve are happily married, with three beautiful children.

14 The Smell Of Baked Cookies Is One Of His Favorite Things

Jared Padalecki is not like every other guy out there. He's not one of those guys who's into sports cars, hooking up with random people every night just because he can, and so on. One of his favorite things is the smell of baked cookies. I mean, that tells you everything you need to know about this guy.

Jared once said: "I love cookies baking. During the winter they have these candles that smell like cookies, and I always buy like a hundred of them."

Doesn't that sounds sweet and kind of romantic, or is it just me? Picture this — it's winter, December perhaps, it's snowing outside; you and Jared are all cuddled up, the fireplace is burning bright, and the smell of freshly baked cookies is spreading throughout your house. Ah!

13 He's Dealt With Mental Health Problems

Even though he's a celebrity, he's very much like us mortals. I mean, with all his money, fame, houses, and cars, he also has to deal with important things, such as mental health issues.

A lot of people don't know that he's been diagnosed with depression while filming Supernatural. He revealed that in an interview for Variety: "And I, in the past, have had my own struggles of not [being] so happy with where I am in life, which is strange and I think it goes to show. … Maybe a lot of people don’t know this, but Season 3, we were shooting an episode, and I went back to my trailer to get changed and just kind of broke down. A doctor came to set and talked to me for about 30 minutes or 45 minutes and said: 'Jared, I think you’re clinically depressed. I think I should write you a note and we can shut down production for five days and then we can take it from there.'"

12 That Is Why Jared Works To Raise Awareness For Mental Illness

Considering that he himself has been struggling with depression, the fact that Jared Padalecki has been working on raising awareness for mental health issues shouldn't come as a surprise. A few years ago, in 2015, Jared launched his "Always Keep Fighting" campaign, which raised funds for "To Write Love On Her Arms," which is "a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide."

In April 2015, for his second campaign, Padalecki partnered with his friend and Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles to release a shirt featuring both of their faces. The profit would go into their new joint charitable fund. Jared raised $250,000 in the first campaign alone, and I'm sure that number is even bigger now.

11 Jared Padalecki Turned Down The 'G.I. Joe' Role

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is an American movie from 2009. It was a big hit in the box office, grossing over 300 million dollars. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sienna Miller, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje are just some of the famous actors starring in it, and Jared Padalecki almost ended up starring it as well.

Jared talked about this move and said: "It is weird because on the one hand I couldn’t do [G.I. Joe] because I was doing Supernatural, but if I hadn’t been doing Supernatural who knows if I would have gotten offered G.I. Joe. It would have been great but then what, you still have to keep working. I’ll get it when it’s time. I think so many people set goals and then get frustrated when something doesn’t happen, but I feel like this is a marathon, not a sprint."

It would have been cool to see him in G.I. Joe, but seeing how much he cares for Supernatural is even better.

10 He's Been In A Bar Fight

It looks like Jared and Jensen are much more like their Supernatural characters than they think. A few years after the show premiered, Jared was in a bar fight, all thanks to Jensen.

The fight happened in Canada, in a bar Jared and Jensen were hanging out at, Things got messy after a girl saw Jensen and said, "That's the guy" meaning she recognized him from the show. That's when a few guys who misinterpreted what she said attacked him.

According to Jensen Ackles, Jared was the one who got the worst of it. He saidI got away first, then I turned around and saw three or four guys teaming up on Jared. I was like, 'Oh, man!' I ran back in and I was fly-kicking at some kid, hit another guy, grabbed Jared's shirt — of course, I ripped his favorite shirt — and I was yelling 'C'mon, let's get out of here!'"

9 He Really Is As Tall As He Looks

Have you ever had one of those moments when you were watching Supernatural, only focusing on Sam, thinking how gorgeous he is, and wondering about his height; whether he is really that tall? Yeah, we've all been there, right? Well, just to let you know — he really is that tall. He's 6' 4" tall (1.93 m). So you can compare Jensen Ackles  (AKA: Dean) is 6'1'' (1.85 m) and Mark Sheppard, who plays Crowley is 5'8.6'' (1.74 m) tall.

Could his Polish genes behind his above-average height or is it something else? I have a theory that he's a Polish version of Hercules. Some ancient Slavic gods must have given Jared some of their power. I mean, what else can explain his whole appearance, which is God-like.

8 But For Some Reason, Jared Has Body Issues

He's 6' 4¾" tall (1.95 m), has amazing abs, those pecs are to die for, looks like a Greek god, yet he's still self-conscious about his body! Yes, you read that right. I mean, if you ask me, Jared is the most handsome actor out there. Just look at him! But, as I said, he doesn't think so. He admitted that he loves wearing hoodies, because they're cozy and he can eat some food without his belly showing.

Hmm, that's interesting, but I do have one question: what belly is he talking about? He'd have to eat all the junk food in the world and maybe, just maybe, he'd have a bit bigger belly. So yes, he should stop worrying about that, because he looks perfect the way he is (seriously, I'm not saying this just to sound nice).

7 Jared Is Of Polish Descent

If you really are a fan of Jared Padalecki, then you already know everything there is to know about his descent. But I bet some of you don't know a lot about it, and that's why I'm here!

You see, Jared was born in San Antonio, Texas to Gerald and Sherri Padalecki. As you have probably figured it out from his last name, he's got some European blood in his veins. His father is Polish, hence the last name, and his mother has German, French, English, and Scottish ancestry. That's quite a mix there, right? Speaking of his mother, you probably had no idea that she's a high school heroes, myths, and legends teacher, right? While preparing for his role in Supernatural, Sam got a lot of information about mythology from his mom. That must have been very helpful!

6 He's A Total Brainiac

Not only is Jared Padalecki super handsome, tall, gorgeous, adorable, and everything else, but he is also very intelligent; he's a real brainiac.

He won the National Forensic League championship with his debate partner while he was in high school. Not only that, but during his senior year there, he was also a candidate for the Presidential Scholars Program. The Presidential Scholars Program is described as one of the Nation's highest honors for students and it's extended to students who demonstrate "exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts."

I mean, that says a lot about him, right? After he graduated from high school, he enrolled as an engineering major at the University of Texas in Austin, but he dropped out when he landed a role in Gilmore Girls.

5 Jared Wants The 'Supernatural' Finale To Be Open-Ended

Even though most Supernatural fans don't want the show to end, unfortunately, that will happen eventually. And Jared knows how he wants the show to finish; he wants an open ending. Well, either that or an apocalypse.

"Part of me, loving Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, always thought it'd be great to see the boys against insurmountable odds and to freeze-frame on them and just hear stuff in the background. You don't know if they die, you don't know if they live, but you know that they're going to go out in a blaze of glory," he said. "And then I went back and watched a few of the episodes, I watched through 'Swan Song' and the scene of the boys laying on the hood of the Impala. I think that'd be a nice way to go out if we had to — watching the end of the world. Or looking up at us from the trunk and throwing the weapons in and saying we've got work to do."

4 He Almost Got The Role Of Superman

J. J. Abrams, the American screenwriter, was working on a movie you've probably never heard of  before: Superman. I know what you're thinking, you've all heard of Superman. But, you've never heard of this particular project.

Superman: Flyby was supposed to be an origin story that included Krypton being destroyed, the Civil War on the planet, Superman's launch to Earth to fulfill a prophecy, etc...

I bet you also didn't know that Jared Padalecki filmed some test footage for the movie, because he was supposed to play none other than Superman himself! Unfortunately, this project was scrapped, and instead, we got Superman Returns. It's a pity that the movie was never filmed because Jared has all the rights attributed for this role. He's gorgeous, handsome, tall, and I bet he would have looked amazing in spandex!

3 Jared Is Very Superstitious

Yes, you read the title right — Jared is very superstitious. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. He actually confirmed this himself. He said, "Whenever I drive under a yellow light, I always kiss my finger and tap it on the roof of the car. And I do that when I get onto a plane as well!"

I mean, that's fine, everybody has their own phobias, but how the heck does he even manage to shoot Supernatural, in that case? If you have seen the show, then you know that it is all about demons, witches, werewolves, Lucifer, apocalypse, and so on (in other words, it's about all the evil stuff). Yet, he has this weird ritual he does when he drives under a yellow light?

2 Jared And Jensen Are Actually Friends In Real Life

Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural are brothers and are obviously pretty close to each other. Well, it's not much different with Jared and Jensen. You see, these two are very close to each other in real life as well! They're basically besties. Sometimes they even compare themselves to the characters they’re playing.

In an interview with Telegraph India, Jensen said "I think we do have that loyalty and I can honestly say you know, I’d trust my life with this guy and I guess in relevance to Dean for Sam, I would jump in front of a bullet for him any day and never think twice." And Jared’s response to this lovely sentiment was, "Unfortunately for him, he’s stuck with me for life now and that’s important."

That was seriously the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. This is what real friendships are supposed to be like.

1 There's A Reason He Wore An Arm Sling In Season 10 Of 'Supernatural'

Considering that you're a fan of Jared Padalecki, I assume you're also a fan of Supernatural. In that case, you know that Sam and Dean get a lot of injuries throughout the show. They get stabbed, bitten, shot, and possessed by demons in many episodes. And that shouldn't come as a surprise, considering their job is hunting evil supernatural beings, right?

That being said, fans were still surprised when Sam suddenly started wearing an arm sling in season 10 of Supernatural. Of course, people who watch the show immediately assumed the arm sling was there because Sam injured himself while fighting a demon or some other creature, but they realized they were wrong after Sam kept wearing the sling in the following episodes.

The truth is that Jared Padalecki was messing around with his fellow actor from Supernatural, Osric Chau, in the green room at a convention. They started wrestling, which resulted in Jared Padalecki dislocating his shoulder.
