They say everyone has a twin, yet most of us expect our twins to be human doppelgängers. In the case of Joshua Carpenter-Jones, a 19-year-old student at Havant & South Downs College in the UK, however, his lookalike is a bit more…animated.
Carpenter-Jones, who this week shared a selfie on Reddit, has been making the social media rounds for bearing an uncanny resemblance to Linguini, the son of Auguste Gusteau and Renata Linguini, who impersonates a chef to impress a girl, in the Pixar film Ratatouille, which won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Carpenter-Jones, who also works in a kitchen, just may be the real counterpart to the animated kind-hearted clutz and would-be chef. According to the kitchen porter, “I wore the chef's hat and whites when they put me on desserts service, and they loved it even more because they said I looked even more like Linguini.”
So far Carpenter-Jones has had over 174,000 upvotes on Reddit. After his newfound fame, some Reddit users have suggested he try out for a live action version of Ratatouille. To illustrate how much Carpenter-Jones resembles Linguini, one user said, “I showed just the picture to my wife and didn't say anything. She just said "Ratatouille."
Interestingly, celebrity chef Bobby Flay has also been compared to Linguini as well as the Lucky Charms Leprechaun. Brooke Viggiano from the Houston Press, who noticed the resemblance, also pointed out other celebrity chef doppelgangers, such as Alton Brown and Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory, Mario Batali and Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons, Emeril Lagasse and Gargamel the Evil Wizard from The Smurfs, and Rick Bayless and Ned Flanders from The Simpsons.
