Mark Normand is undoubtedly one of the greats within this latest generation of comedians. Not only is his comedic prose as hilarious as it is edgy and insightful, but the dude also loves comedy more than life. In A Letter From Mark Normand, published in Whalebone Magazine, the comedian explains that he never thought about quitting comedy because life before it was so rudderless that it made New York City's cruelty exciting to him.

"What's worse: Being a nobody on the NY comedy scene or being a nobody in a cubicle chasing some invisible stability or whatever bulls--t we're taught about adulthood," he asks readers in the letter. Well over 10 years since starting in the field, he's indeed come into his own as a comedian.

His 2020 comedy special Out To Lunch has over 11 million views on Youtube alone, matched with his multiple weekly podcasts and crazy tour schedule - Mark is on top of the comedy world. Not to mention, he just became someone's husband. On top of all of his professional success, the comedian found love in the most hopeless of places - the New York City comedy scene.

Who Is Mark Normand's Wife?

Mark's wife is fellow comedian Mae Planert. Originally from Sandwich, Massachusetts, Mae attended Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. She graduated in 2012 with a BA in media communications and headed to Boston. After living there for two years, she made her way to New York City, where she met Mark.

The two met in a pretty iconic way as well. Mae was actually on a date with someone else at one of Mark's 2015 shows. After the date, she told a friend that she couldn't stop thinking about the comedian she saw during her date, and she was convinced to reach out to him. One sneaky DM later, and the rest is history.

Mae wasn't an established comedian when she started dating Mark, but he was well into his comedy career at that point. Rather than ride on his coattails, she tried doing anything creative that wasn't comedy. "I didn't want to do the thing he was doing. You know, for obvious reasons. I just wanted to do my own thing, so I tried to circumvent it by doing other things that are also creative. I hated it so bad," she said during a podcast.

Ultimately, after numerous failed attempts, she decided to give comedy a chance but not let her boyfriend know she was doing so. He didn't find out until six months after she had started, and that was only because she was booked on the same show as him! Since then, the pair have shared the stage numerous times but don't talk about comedy often. Mae has said that keeping comedy out of her relationship has helped her develop her own style.

Where Did Mark Normand Get Married?

Mark and Mae got married in New Orleans in November 2022. The event was huge and full of hilarious moments, starting with Mark not knowing he couldn't sleep with the bride the night before the wedding. Mark has been recounting the tales of his wedding with fellow comedian Joe List on their podcast Tuesdays With Stories! even recording an episode while at the wedding.

Mark shared that the wedding was "so pretty" and incredibly fun on his podcast. In a rare sappy moment, the comedian thanked his co-host and good friend Joe for his fantastic speech. Joe admitted he was afraid he offended Mae during his speech because she told Joe she had one note about it after it.

During the speech, Joe was trying to articulate that he knows Mae but not as well as he knows Mark, and she felt Joe said that he doesn't really know Mae at all. Mark didn't seem phased by Joe's worry, a pretty classic example of their dynamic.

They had an insane food spread at the reception, with Mark saying there was everything from po'boys and beignets to an oyster station with freshly shucked oysters. Mae wore a chic Ines Di Santo gown that had removable sleeves and a low-cut back. They had a traditional New Orleans wedding, including an epic second-line procession through the streets of Nola.

Who Was At Mark Normand's Wedding?

The comedian's wedding turned into a who's who of the comedy world, welcoming faces from all over the country for the big event. As previously mentioned, Joe List was present and actually ended up serenading the party. The comedian joined the band towards the end of the party, offering lights-out renditions to some classic tunes.

Ari Schaffer, Stavros Halkias, Sean Patton, and Sam Morrill are just some of the comedians who came out to celebrate their friends' marriage. According to Joe, comedian Luis J. Gomez was pretty upset not to score an invitation to the event. Mark didn't seem too upset about Luis, but how could he care? He's basking in that after-wedding bliss, baby!
