Actor Mark Wahlberg follows daily routines most of us simply cannot. By 2:30 AM, he’s already up and in prayer mode. By 4 AM, he’s hitting a workout, and let’s just say it isn’t your average training, as you’ll see in his recent Instagram post;

Mark follows a HIIT type of training split, which involves circuits and super-sets, matched with a lack of breaks in-between. That style of training will definitely get the heart-rate going.

As grueling as the workouts are, the true key is the recovery, which needs to be optimal. Or else, it’ll feel like you hit a wall. Wahlberg admitted that at one point, his recovery wasn’t where it should’ve been;

“I wasn’t getting enough rest, doing two-a-days, six to seven days a week, eating seven to eight meals of mostly protein, and just not feeling good,” he says. “I did a bone broth fast, and then went plant-based for what was supposed to be twelve days. That was four months ago.”

Of course, the role mark takes on plays a big part in his training, he isn’t lifting heavy on the regular like Dwayne Johnson, the training splits tends to vary, especially depending on his role;

“I train for whatever my next role is or whatever I gotta do for work,” he says in a new Gym and Fridge video. Different roles have very different demands on his body. “If I gotta get out of shape, then I’m eating fried food and drinking beer for the first couple of weeks," he says. "If I gotta get as thin as possible, like in The Gambler, I’m on a liquid diet and jump rope 200 rounds a day.”

Definitely contrasting styles but quite clearly nowadays, he’s maintaining quite the shape, in large part, thanks to his recovery methods.
