Some people fall in love at first sight. Unfortunately, that was definitely not the case for Henry Rodriguez, who married a flight attendant Christina just moments after laying eyes on her. The couple featured on Lifetime’s Married At First Sight has spent their new relationship arguing over everything from Christina’s late nights out on the town to rumors that Henry is actually gay. In any case, the couple does not seem like a match made in heaven.

Now, fans have taken to Reddit to discuss a new theory about why the two have not been able to work their problems out. In the words of the OG poster, some viewers “suspect Henry is high-functioning autistic or Aspergers.” We have taken a dive into the comments section to understand a bit more about fans’ speculations.

Note: Fan theories are no indication of a reality star’s real-life condition. Diagnosis cannot be made through a television.

Why The Rumor?

According to the OG post, Henry reminded the thread author of friends and family members who have the condition. “Based on my friends who are and a nephew who is Aspergers, his behavior in social situations is very much the same,” reads the post. Hm, that answer hardly sounds scientific and was almost definitely not made by, say, a doctor.

Regardless of whether or not the mysterious Reddit user is qualified to make that kind of assumption, fans spiraled into an intense debate about whether or not it’s true. One of the most-discussed points in the comments section was Henry’s occasional twitching. A user even commented that the movements seemed like something outside of the reality star’s control. Again, that seems difficult to determine from the hidden side of a TV screen.

If the Reddit thread weren’t already confusing enough, several fans threw their own diagnosis into the mix. “I have Tourette’s and have very similar tics in situations that bring me a lot of anxiety,” shared another anonymous user.

An Impossible Diagnosis

Beyond the obvious point that Reddit is maybe not the ideal place to go for medical advice, it is important for viewers to keep in mind that there are many reasons for Henry’s odd facial expressions. One of these explanations is actually as simple as the role of show production.

Producers splice up hundreds of hours of footage to piece together the show’s two-hour episodes. This means that it is normal for Henry’s sideways expressions and nervous fidgeting to make it into the episode, regardless of the frequency of these behaviors IRL.

Besides, it is really difficult to point to any one factor when analyzing what went wrong between Henry and Christina. While Christina might not like that Henry is clearly on the quiet side, that definitely doesn’t mean that he should change... or that there is necessarily any underlying diagnosis.

Regardless of any conditions that Henry could possibly have, he deserves the same thing that everybody- with autism, Tourette’s, or neither -does: someone who loves him the way he is.
