Freeman Had Some Choice Words For Carrey's Method Acting

For the unfamiliar, method acting is a style that sees an actor playing their character at all times while filming is underway. It is an intense way to prepare for a role and to stay in character, and while most people don't go the method route, some stars undergo the dramatic transformation for their performance.

Jim Carrey utilized method acting for Man on the Moon, and a subsequent documentary that was released about the project's filming peeled back the curtain on what it was like working with Carrey during that time. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty, and Martin Freeman called Carrey out for his behavior.

"For me, and I’m genuinely sure Jim Carrey is a lovely and smart person, but it was the most self-aggrandizing, selfish, narcissistic fucking bollocks I have ever seen. The idea that anything in our culture would celebrate or support it is deranged, literally deranged," said Freeman.

"You need to keep grounded in reality, and that’s not to say you don’t lose yourself in the time between ‘action’ and ‘cut’, but I think the rest of it is absolute pretentious nonsense and highly amateurish. It is not professional. Get the job done, do your work," he added.

Again, Carrey was in character at all times, stuffing smelly cheese in his pockets and hanging out with Hells Angels bikers while filming. He was also annoying, verbally abusive, and hostile at times while staying in character.
