The Game of Thrones star who played Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO series previously joined the Star Wars universe as Qi'Ra, and will now take over the MCU in an unknown role.

Fans have been wondering which comic-book character Clarke is set to bring to life. The most popular theory so far is that the former Mother of Dragons will play Veranke, the supervillainess serving as the queen of the Skrull Empire.

Emilia Clarke To Portray Veranke?

Veranke is the main antagonist of Secret Invasion, where she leads her empire to invade and conquer Earth. The series will follow the events of Captain Marvel and place emphasis on Nick Fury and an alien race of shape-shifters known as Skulls.

The comic-book storyline centered around a revelation, that Earth's mightiest heroes were replaced by Skulls, shape-shifters who attempted to conquer the planet. The operation was led by Princess Veranke, as she commanded her troops and infiltrated the S.H.I.E.L.D. and  other organizations.

Clarke will join already announced cast members Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Ben Mendelsohn (Skull General Talos Keller), Kingsley Ben-Adir (an unnamed villain), and Olivia Colman.

Fans are certain Emilia would be perfect for the role of Veranke, but other Marvel enthusiasts think she'd be portraying Spider-Woman aka Jessica Drew, a heroine Veranke previously posed as in the comics.

@Hectorisfunny noted that Jessica Drew had an English accent in the comic-books, which is fitting for Clarke!

"Introduce her as Drew, and then at some point in the show, reveal her as Veranke, and then keep Clarke as Drew after the fact. I'm sure the SECRET INVASION show will have a LOT of twists." they suggested as fans agreed.

If Emilia Clarke will portray Jessica Drew/Veranke, it'll be interesting to see which character Olivia Colman has been roped in to play.

"Olivia Colman as a Skrull perhaps? Wouldn't be the first time she's played an shapeshifting alien invader," a fan wrote, referring to the actor's time on BBC's Doctor Who.

The last time we saw Skrulls was during an end-credit scene in WandaVision, when Monica Rambeau is approached by one. An officer revealed herself as the shape-shifting alien, and the next scene suggested she was to meet with Nick Fury.
