McDonald's will soon limit its late night menu in an attempt to improve the speed of service customers receive between midnight and 5 am.
McDonald's only serving certain items at certain times of the day is nothing new. For those of us around the world who still don't know the luxury of the fast food franchise's all-day breakfast options, if we arrive at the Golden Arches after 10:30 am then we will have to wait until the following day to satisfy our McMuffin craving.
Whether McDonald's breakfast is available to you beyond 10:30 am or not, we don't have to worry about any other time constraints on the restaurant's menu. Come April 30, that will all change. Nation's Restaurant News has revealed that starting from the end of this month, the items available to customers between the hours of midnight and 5 am will be extremely limited.
According to various reports, the changes are being brought in as an attempt to streamline customer service late at night. "We always want our customers’ experiences to be simple, smooth and delicious – any time of day," the company revealed in a statement to USA Today. It means a large chunk of the menu will not be available late at night. Here's what will be available, so you know whether it's worth your while to make a late night trip.
The items that have made the midnight cut are Big Macs, quarter pounders, chicken nuggets, all day breakfast, fries and all other sides, happy meals, sweets and treats, and McCafes and beverages. If you want a Fillet-O-Fish, Big Tasty, or Chicken Legend in the wee hours of the morning, you had better do it now as from April 30, that will no longer be an option.
Aside from an attempt to streamline late night service when there are understandably less staff on hand, these changes likely come on the back of a report released last year. That report listed McDonald's as having the longest wait times for its drive-thru of a litany of rival fast food chains. Most customers will likely be using the drive-thru in the early hours of the morning and although the wait times might be shorter, there will be less to choose from on the menu.
