McDonald's tricked a lot of people into believing its Milkshake Dips were the real deal on April Fools' Day, some of whom have been left extremely disappointed.
Since the advent and popularisation of social media, it has become far too easy to pull pranks on people for April Fools' Day. While scrolling through Facebook and Twitter on April 1, it can be hard to distinguish what is actual news and what is simply someone trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
That's why McDonald's lovers weren't too sure what to make of the fast food giant's announcement on Monday. Maccy D's revealed that it would be releasing a new range of dips. Milkshake dips. According to the social media announcement, the new "sauces" would come in four different flavors. Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, and Shamrock.
NOT AN APRIL FOOLS': YOU CAN NOW GET A MCDONALD'S CHEESEBURGER-SCENTED CANDLE
Despite the date, McDonald's actually managed to fool a lot of people into believing that the announcement was legitimate. Perhaps even more shockingly, the internet was pretty split over whether milkshake dipping sauces would be a good idea or not. It has been commonplace for McDonald's goers to dip fries in their milkshakes for a while, and this prank has got people arguing whether it's disgusting or not all over again.
We here at TheThings have never tried dipping fries in our milkshakes and quite honestly, we don't understand why you would ever want to. If the sauces were to become a real thing, we also wonder where they'd be kept. Since they would be mostly made up of milk, we can't imagine having them sat under the counter with the other sauces would be the best idea in the world.
McDonald's has since put fry-dipping shake lovers out of their misery by confirming that the announcement was simply a rouse. It's McPickle Burger was also just a joke, an equally disgusting but far more transparent prank. It has followed up by asking which of the four flavors customers would like most if milkshake dips were to ever become a thing. At the time of typing this, chocolate leads the way with 34% of the votes.
