Fans across the globe were devastated when news of Paul Walker's death began making headlines. It was no doubt a gutwrenching time for Paul's ex and mother of his daughter, as well as his daughter herself, who was fifteen at the time.

But Paul also left behind his girlfriend of seven years, Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell. And while people all over the world were mourning Paul, his girlfriend was dealing with her own grief, and that's what most media sources chose to focus on. But there's more to the story than Jasmine losing her boyfriend, and it seems that the media made an uncomfortable misstep.

Headlines Called Out Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell's Grief

Do a quick search of Paul Walker's last girlfriend, Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell. The majority of headlines, or at least the top news sources that come up, lament how she "struggles to mend broken heart" and that she was "broken up" over Paul's death.

One article calls out that the two apparently had "marriage plans" when he passed away suddenly. Another article says his girlfriend "collapsed when hearing about fiery car crash." What very few headlines actually talk about is that the relationship between Paul Walker and his long-term girlfriend, legally speaking, never should have happened in the first place.

Headlines Glossed Over Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell's Age

Many news sources neglected to call out the age gap between Jasmine and Paul. Some note it, and move on; Daily Mail even wrote, "The couple began dating when Jasmine was just 16 and Paul was 33 - but the 17-year gap was no barrier to their relationship." The publication further stated, "Their passionate love affair lasted seven years," and that Jasmine "happily took on the role of step-mom to Paul's daughter."

That's a far cry from the way news sources have reported other celebrities dating underage girls, with lesser age gaps between the partners. It's even a far cry from the way most sources report on Scott Disick's pursuit of women who are exactly 18 or older, or even the way that everyone talks about Leonardo DiCarprio "only" dating models who are in their 20s as he's pushing 50.

The fact that Walker is now deceased doesn't change the fact that he dated a teenage girl while in his thirties. And what makes things worse is that many articles call out the 'adorable' relationship between Paul's daughter Meadow and her dad's then-girlfriend.

For reference, Jasmine was born in 1990; Paul's daughter was born in 1998. Paul was born in 1973. To sum it up, Jasmine was young enough to be Paul's daughter, and some sources even suggest that Paul met Jasmine through his daughter. So why the exception for the too-soon departed Paul Walker?

Fans Didn't Want To Hear The 'Negativity'

Some news sources did 'go there' and spoke up about Jasmine's age when Paul began pursuing her. Chalk it up to grief or something else, but many fans shot down any accusation that Paul Walker was anything less than a saint. In fact, many people make comments about letting the late actor rest in peace, rather than bringing up possible mistakes he's made in the past.

Some dissenters who commented on Instagram photos of Paul and Jasmine were also threatened and cussed at by self-proclaimed fans for saying Paul was "too old" for Jasmine. But he was when they met; she was not old enough to legally consent to their relationship.

And that same Daily Mail article that talked about the former couple's heartwarming relationship also noted that Jasmine was a student in college at the time Paul passed away, but had planned to spend her life with Walker. What's more, her dad had "put her" in therapy to help manage her grief.

It's not a hard thing to imagine; a 23-year-old woman in love with someone, planning their life around him. But when fans look back at the relationship history and see that Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell was seemingly planning her life around her then-33-year-old boyfriend while she was in high school, it's uncomfortable.

To be fair, some fans have called out the not-so-savory details of Paul Walker's last romance before his passing. Someone also suggested that had he not been such a golden boy in Hollywood, he would have faced the same fate as R. Kelly for his actions. Because even before Jasmine, Paul reportedly dated another 16-year-old (when he was 28).

The question is, why didn't people talk about this more widely while Paul Walker was still alive? Clearly, people knew about it, because by the time of his death, he'd been dating Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell for seven years. And if fans didn't want to bring it up, why didn't the "powers that be" in Hollywood?
