The first human emerged approximately almost two million years ago, but we are beyond lucky to live in the same era as Bruno Mars: one of the best singers, songwriters, and performers of this generation. Not only does he possess a three-octave tenor vocal range, but he also brings back the 90s and the 80s for the Gen-Z and millennial audiences today. Everything he touches turns into gold, and even though he only owns three studio albums in his catalog: Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010), Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), and 24k Magic (2016), he has already won eleven Grammys, four Guinness World Records, and 115 other awards out of 416 nominations.

Back in 2014, when people doubted Bruno to perform on the grand stage of Super Bowl Halftime show because he only had two albums under his belt, the retro showman answered it elegantly with a well-executed performance. He opened the show with his solo drum skill, dedicated to his late mother, Bernadette Hernandez. He followed it up with a mash-up of his timeless hits like Locked Out of Heaven, Treasure, and Runaway Baby before closing it with Just The Way You Are.

The thing is, we already know how talented he is, but Bruno is not a standalone artist. He has a loyal band beside him, and without taking any credits from the showman, we're going to take a dive into each member of The Hooligans, the group behind Bruno Mars' showmanship.

Phredley Brown (Keyboard, Lead Guitar, & Backing Vocals)

Phredley Brown was just a kid from Detroit when he first found his passion for music. His mother taught music at Southfield Public School in Southfield, Michigan, and that's how music runs through his veins. Both Bruno and Phred are avid fans of the 80s and 90s music, and that's one of the many reasons why they fit. He helped co-write Bruno's 2012 award-winning hit, Treasure, and now serves as his musical director. Recently, the guitarist had just released a three-track soundtrack mix tape, Run Free, and make sure to check it out!

Jamareo Artis (Bass Guitar)

Jamareo Artist graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School in 2007 before winning P. Diddy's Making The Band reality TV series in 2009. He linked up with Bruno Mars way back in 2010 when they both first met in Los Angeles, outside the S.I.R. Rehearsal Studio. The less-known Bruno, at that time, was only "a short guy that only produced for others." Now, Jamareo serves as a bass guitarist for The Hooligans and has been touring all around the globe with the showman himself since 2010.

Eric 'E-Panda' Hernandez (Drum)

Eric Hernandez is the only member of The Hooligans who is related to Bruno by blood. He is Bruno's older brother with an almost ten-year gap. The Hernandez brothers were born in a family of musicians. Their father, Peter Hernandez Sr., was a percussionist for Hawaii-based bands Love & Money and Cecilio & Kapono and raised them in his doo-wops collection. Eric has been serving as the band's drummer since the very beginning of his brother's career. Their sister, Tiara, Tahiti, and Presley formed an all-girl band, The Lylas, with their cousin Jaime.

Kameron Whalum III (Trombone, Backing Vocals)

Bringing back the 80s means bringing back the trombone sounds to the mainstream, and Kameron Whalum is the right person for it. The Memphis born-and-bred has music in his blood and honed his musical talent at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He was also a part of his university's Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra. Three weeks after making his television debut on Saturday Night Live with Jessie J, Bruno mars enlisted him to be a part of The Hooligans.

Dwayne Dugger (Saxophone, Keyboard)

Born and raised in New York, Dwayne Dugger fell in love with music from a very young age. Just like Kameron, he was also a Morehouse grad. Back in his Morehouse days, Dwayne and his mates formed a local band called Jaspects and had two jazz & soul-influenced albums in their discography catalog: Polka-dotted Strips & Double Consciousness. Now, he plays the sax for The Hooligans.

James King (Trumpet & Backing Vocals)

Kameron's brother referred James King, his Morehouse colleague, to Bruno Mars back in the early 2010s. "The relationship happened when Kameron Whalum's brother got a phone call to set up the horn section for him (Bruno)," James told Charles Sharper in 2014. "He said, 'Do you wanna go on the road with Bruno?' ... and from there, we just became close friends."

"I look at Bruno like one of my brothers," said James. "Like a really close friend."

John Fossit (Keyboard)

From a homeless kid to a Super Bowl headliner. John Fossit's story is the epitome of the American Dream, and just before Bruno signed him, he was chasing dream and homeless. "I met Bruno Mars at Teen Choice Awards," he told Fox's Good Morning Rochester in 2014. "We just had mutual respect for each other." His message for upcoming artists? "Number one is always practice. You’re not going to have enough practice. Practicing is everything from scales and hand exercises, but also learning how to emulate different styles and, at the same time, finding your own sound."

Philip Lawrence (Backing Vocalist)

Lastly, we have Phillip Lawrence, and probably the most notable member of them all. Like many members of the band, he also grew up in a musical family and developed his skills during his time as a performer at Disney World, Florida. They first met way back in 2006 when they were only two young men trying to survive the harsh industry of music. Bruno, Philip, and a mutual friend called Ari Levine formed a songwriting and producing team called The Smeezingtons. They even produced K'naan's iconic 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem, Wavin' Flag and Adele's highest-selling album, 21.
