It's truly wild to think about how much Meghan Markle's life has changed in the past few years. The actress went from living in Toronto and starring on the legal drama Suits to falling in love with Prince Harry and becoming a member of the royal family. The wedding was praised as a beautiful moment in time that everyone was thrilled to experience, even if just on a TV screen.
In January 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shared that they would be officially leaving the royal family, which shocked everyone. This decision also meant that Meghan's father Thomas and half-sister Samantha started talking to the media more and more. Samantha Markle Has Spoken Out Against Meghan Markle
Before Meghan Markle acted on Suits, she grew up in L.A. and went to private school. People reported that Meghan's mom Doria Ragland is "supportive" and it seems like Meghan ensured that her mother was a huge part of her new life.
However, the same thing can't be said of Meghan's half-sister who she doesn't appear to talk to at all.
There have been many instances when Meghan Markle's half-sister Samantha Markle has spoken out about Meghan and it sounds like they don't have a good relationship at all.
According to Us Weekly, Samantha appeared in a documentary Thomas Markle: My Story and said that she didn't think that it was a good idea that Meghan and Prince Harry were leaving royal life. Samantha said, "With Meghan and Harry separating from the royals, it's disappointing to me because she actually got every girl's dream. Every young girl wanted to become a princess and she got that and now she's tossing that away. ... It looks like she's tossing that away for money."
Samantha also explained to Inside Edition that she felt that Meghan and Harry went about this all wrong: "I think what is shocking is the lack of consideration for the people involved, the British royal family, the promises that were originally made to honor royal duties and to lead by example."
Samantha Markle Didn't Like When Meghan Was Interviewed By Oprah
In March 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a much-anticipated interview. Everyone was waiting to see what they would say about what they had been through as part of the royal family, and it was impossible not to hear about it everywhere.
Meghan shared that she was suffering from depression and that it became very serious and she described it as "begging for help." Meghan got some support from a good pal of the late Princess Diana.
Samantha Markle hated the Oprah interview and according to The Daily Mail, she said that she didn't care that Meghan was depressed as she felt that Meghan had treated her really poorly. Samantha said, "Depression is not an excuse for treating people like dishrags and disposing of them."
Samantha wrote a book called The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister and Meghan said during the interview that it had been 20 years since she had been around Samantha. In Meghan's words, it sounds like the two have never had a relationship. Meghan said, "I think it would be very hard to tell all when you don't know me."
Samantha said that she and Meghan did know each other and had a college graduation picture ready as proof.
What Meghan Markle Thinks Of Her Half-Sister
While the public has been able to hear Samantha Markle's side of the story, Meghan Markle thinks that her half-sister just wants to be in the public eye.
Meghan told Oprah that once she became involved with Prince Harry and became famous, that's when Samantha started going by the last name "Markle" as well.
Meghan explained, “This is a very different situation than my dad, right? When you talk about betrayal, betrayal comes from someone that you have a relationship with. I don’t feel comfortable talking about people that I really don’t know. I grew up as an only child…. The last time I saw her must have been at least 18, 19 years ago. And before that, 10 years before that.”
Meghan has been open about how she doesn't get along with her father Thomas and Thomas Markle talked about Meghan, explaining to Good Morning Britain that he gives media interviews in the hopes that Meghan will talk to him again. He said, "Because I don’t hear from them, I do a story with the press. If I don’t hear from them in 30 days, I’ll do another one. I would love to hear from them. When they decide to talk to me, I’ll stop talking to the press.”
According to The Daily Mail, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been living in Montecito, California and they are looking to sell their home and move to a new house. A source explained that they aren't thrilled with the house.
