The View has made a name for itself as one of America’s most contentious daytime talk shows. The show's five female hosts debate everything from gun control to racial discrimination, promising a 40-minute slot filled with political showdowns and fiery debates. Before her departure last year, the show also promised constant feuds between Meghan McCain and current panelist Whoopi Goldberg. The two disagreed on everything from gay marriage laws and Biden’s style of rhetoric and their arguments were so frequent, viewers constantly wondered if there was anything the pair agreed on.

But, there has been the odd occasion caught on and off the camera where the two hosts have agreed on controversial topics - topics that are definitely more surprising than you think. We’ll be taking a look at those rare instances where Meghan McCain and Whoopi Goldberg actually agreed on controversial topics.

6 Meghan and Whoopi Have Expressed A Dislike Of Trump... To Put It Mildly

McCain's political stance is complicated, to say the least. McCain was The View's resident Republican whereas Goldberg is a firm Democrat but when it comes to Trump both women have expressed contempt. Although McCain voted Republican in the 2020 presidential race, she admitted she felt "relieved" by Biden's win and that she looked forward to "having a president who respects [prisoners of war] who have been captured." McCain was referring to comments Trump made in 2015, claiming McCain's father - a US Navy veteran - was "not a war hero," and that he "likes people [soldiers] who weren't captured."

Needless to say, McCain's relief created at Biden's win created some shared ground, however small; Goldberg's dislike of Trump has been made crystal clear over the years.

5 Whoopi Disagreed With Trump's Attack On Meghan's Late Father

Former President Trump has also targeted Meghan's late father, the Republican Senator John McCain. Taking to Twitter, Trump wrote how he "made it possible for her father to have the world's longest funeral" even though he was "never, to put it mildly, a fan."

Whoopi has been a longstanding friend of Senator McCain's and shared Meghan's outrage. In the same episode, Goldberg called out Trump for his cruel words as she incredulously asked: "really, what on earth is going on? What are you [Trump] doing?!... You're missing the point and what your job is supposed to be?".

4 Goldberg and McCain Agree More Conversations Are Needed About Gun Control

To be clear, during her time on The View, Meghan stood firmly by her opinion that gun reforms would be an infringement of rights. She still sticks by these views and understandably, this caused outrage and upset in the episode that followed the tragic Colorado shooting of March 2021. While Meghan initially skirted around the topic, she did eventually concede that "we need to be respectful" and "have conversations" in these times. Whoopi echoed her comments, saying "everyone needs to sit down at the table and have this conversation." It might not seem like much, but for these two hosts, it was a small step towards an important shared opinion.

3 Whoopi and Meghan Agree Kourtney Kardashian Needs More Social Awareness

In an unexpected move, all four panelists found common ground over the Kardashians. In a video shown to the panel, Kourtney cries about turning 40 and complains to her sister Khloe about having "so much" but not feeling content in life. Whoopi was literally floored by Kourtney's negativity, dramatically falling off her chair in disbelief. Meghan vocalized what Whoopi was trying to say, making it clear that she, too, didn't pity Kourtney.

"I'm with Whoopi on this," was Meghan's response. "You [Kourtney] have all the money, all the opportunities, life advantages in the entire world. There are people who can't feed their children". She urged the reality star to "have some self-reflection on this."

2 Both Whoopi and Meghan Have Expressed Support For Gay Marriage

Whoopi has long been a vocal activist for supporting gay marriage, voicing her joy when the Supreme Court refused to hear appeals from five states over their bans on gay marriage. Although not as prominent an activist as Whoopi, Megan has expressed the need for greater support for the community. Speaking with Politico in 2014, for example, she told them "I do believe I'm that unless we start reaching out to minorities and women, and honestly start supporting the LGBT community, there is no more future the Republican party." In this respect, both women agree for a greater focus on pushing for equal rights among the LGBTQIA+ community.

1 Meghan Defended Whoopi In The Jeanine Pirro Debacle

When Fox News host Jeanine Pirro appeared on The View, her show time abruptly ended when Goldberg accused Pirro of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome." Pirro ripped off her microphone and “cursed” at the hosts and crew herself, later alleging that Goldberg then came backstage to spit in her face and told her to “get the f**** out of the building."

The issue was addressed during Meghan's appearance on Watch What Happens Live!, where Meghan defended Goldberg's character, saying "[I]ts really hard not to love Whoopi Goldberg." She also shifted the blame onto Jeanine for not being open-minded enough on the panel. She described Goldberg as being “really fair” so it "was unfortunate that Judge Jeanine didn’t see what I see in her every day... she’s very open to hearing the other side.”
