Michael Che and Pete Davison are two of the most recognizable faces on the long-running late-night comedy Saturday Night Live (SNL). Che currently serves as a head writer and co-anchor of the show’s Weekend Update, alongside co-anchor Colin Jost. On the other hand, Davidson is a cast member who appears on the Weekend Update from time to time. He also happens to be the youngest among the cast today.

Today, both men are successful comedians. Recently, it was also confirmed that Che and Davison will stay on for SNL’s during its 47th season. And while the two men can certainly make viewers laugh together, fans also wonder how close Che and Davidson have become behind the scenes. Many are also particularly curious about how Che really feels about his incredibly popular fellow cast member.

Michael Che And Pete Davidson Started On SNL Around The Same Time

Perhaps, what many don’t realize is that Che and Davidson came to SNL around the same time. Che started writing for SNL in 2013. A year later, he was announced as a new anchor for the Weekend Update, replacing Cecily Strong show still remained a regular cast member on the show.

As for Davidson, he joined SNL in 2014 when he was just 20 years old. He landed the gig after appearing the Judd Apatow film Trainwreck with Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, and Brie Larson. While on the set, Davidson hit it off with Hader and the next thing he knew, he had a shot at getting into SNL. “Not long after that, Bill calls and says, ‘Hey, buddy, I recommended you to Lorne. You’re going to need to come in and audition,’” Davidson recalled during an interview with Maxim.

Davidson would go on to make his SNL debut on the Weekend Update, sitting alongside Che.

Michael Che Has Been Supportive Of Pete Davidson’s Recovery In The Past

Throughout his time on SNL, Davidson has been open about his mental health struggles. Back in 2018, SNL creator Lorne Michaels decided to give him a break after Davidson made an alarming cryptic post on Instagram. “I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore,” he wrote. “I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer i can last. all I’ve ever tried to do was help people. just remember I told you so.”

Following Davidson’s post, Michaels decided to scrap his sketches. As for the rest of the cast, they also grew very concerned about Davidson. “Everyone on the cast is hugely protective of him and were obviously upset,” a source told Page Six. “Particularly Colin Jost and Michael Che on Weekend Update.” Since returning to the show, Davidson has continued to be a regular guest on Weekend Update.

Michael Che Defended Pete Davidson Over His Elon Musk Stance

Over the years, SNL has also attracted controversy over its choice of guest hosts. At one point, some fans even questioned why the show decided to invite Elon Musk. Interestingly, even some cast members appeared to have some objections over the decision. That said, Davidson was very much into the idea. “I don’t know why people are freaking out,” Davidson even remarked while on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “They’re like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe that Elon Musk is hosting!’ And I’m like, the guy that makes the Earth better kinda and makes cool things and sends people to Mars?”

And while some cast members were clearly not pleased about Musk joining them, Che made it clear that he was siding with Davidson on the issue. “He’s the richest man in the world, how could you not be excited for that?” Che remarked.

Michael Che Doesn’t Want To Take Dating Cues From Pete Davidson

Over the years, Davidson has been linked with a lot of famous women. At one point, he was engaged to singer Ariana Grande. Over the years, he’s also dated Kate Beckinsale, Kaia Gerber, and Phoebe Dynevor. More recently, reports have emerged that the SNL cast member is currently dating Kim Kardashian.

And while Davidson doesn’t seem to mind having high-profile romances, Che is the exact opposite. In fact, the Weekend Update co-anchor thinks he can’t date the way Davidson does. “It's so much harder for two famous people to get together and combine forces of attention and press and constant scrutiny,” he explained while speaking with Howard Stern. “It's hard. It's a very, very hard thing to do. Like, if you're in love and it's beautiful, I totally get it, but for me to think to date someone like that… I'm like, 'Oh my god, that seems like so much work.'”

In contrast to Davidson (or even fellow anchor Jost who recently married Scarlett Johansson), Che believes he’d rather go out with someone who’s not in the business. “I’d much rather meet someone normal.” As for Davidson himself, it safe to say he’ll be supportive of whoever Che goes out with next.
