Though Paris Jackson and Prince Jackson, Michael Jackson's two older kids, are often in the spotlight and are vocal about their lives and futures, Bigi Jackson isn't as much. Though the then-teen bought his own home not long ago and is now a legal adult, fans don't hear about him much.

Which means the biggest question about why Bigi goes by his chosen name remains somewhat of a mystery.

What Is Blanket's Real Name?

Bigi's real name is a tribute to his dad; Prince Michael Jackson II. Older brother Prince goes by Prince, but his legal name is Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. It might be that Prince became a nickname while he was a child, so when Prince Michael was born, MJ himself may have been on the hunt for a nickname.

Of course, as fans know, Michael himself earned Bigi his original nickname of 'Blanket' while showing off his baby with a blanket over the child's head. And that's where Bigi originated from.

Why Is Michael Jackson's Son Called Bigi?

Sources say that Prince Michael "changed his name" to Bigi in 2015, but it's unclear whether that was a legal change or just a nickname change. Either way, the now-19-year-old isn't very active on social media (apart from being snapped in his siblings' photos), so he hasn't personally shared his reasons for the name.

Fans can speculate, of course, that Bigi comes from an abbreviation or diminutive adaptation of Blanket. It's also possible that Bigi stems from Blanket Jackson, or BJ, which in today's world might earn Bigi more teasing than his former nickname did.

Kids Used To Tease Blanket For His Name

Various sources suggest that Bigi was very widely known as Blanket and that kids used to tease him for the nickname. That makes it sound like the youngster went by the name Blanket in public, and at school, years after his dad earned him the title. After all, it's unlikely that his kindergarten classmates would know about his dad's long-ago publicity stunt.

Either way, Blanket grew tired of being Blanket and opted for Bigi. Now, his siblings address him as such in their social media posts and in the online show that Prince and Bigi host (they discuss films).

But as Paris pointed out on one of her Instagram posts -- celebrating Bigi's 18th birthday -- the then-teen enjoyed his privacy. Though the three of them seem close, unlike his siblings, Bigi seems to prefer staying out of the public eye and the spotlight.

Still, it seems clear that his name is chosen, and not given to him by anyone else, because of the way his siblings refer to him in their posts and conversations.
