Mike Myers says he would be “thrilled” to jump back into Shrek’s swamp and pick up where Shrek Forever After left off in 2010. The comedian opened up about his iconic role in a recent interview, where he admitted he “loved playing” the bad-tempered but good-hearted ogre, and said he's willing to voice the character again.

Mike Myers Says He Had To Re-Record His Lines

During a career-spanning video interview with GQ magazine, Myer’s revealed the reason he re-recorded all his lines for the eponymous ogre—and what he would love to see happen with the franchise in the future.

“The Euro-centric form that is the fairytale is really about classicism. When I was approached to do Shrek, I originally did it as a Canadian,” he recalled.

“I re-recorded it as Scottish because that seemed to be the most working class. I also love the Scottish people. I have Scottish ancestry. I’m mostly English, but Liverpool is the pool of life between Scotland, England, and Ireland,” Myers said of his decision to re-record his lines for the classic film.

Mike Myers Is Open To Many More Shrek Films

The Austin Power star noted that halfway through making the first Shrek flick that despite the film being an animated comedy, the role of Shrek was a “dramatic” one.

“There’s an emotional center there,” Myers explained. “You know the old joke: I wouldn’t want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member. I have always felt that way. The concept of going from a self-loathing ogre to a self-accepting ogre was meaningful to me.”

Myers then outlined his ambitious dreams for the future of the franchise. He said: “I love playing Shrek. If I had to do one Shrek a year, I’d be thrilled.”

Unfortunately, that doesn’t look to be happening —at least not anytime soon.

In 2018, Variety reported that Universal had tasked Illumination founder Chris Meledandri with overseeing a revival of the series, but a new installment has yet to be officially announced.
