Hannah Montana became an overnight sensation for Disney Channel, turning its lead star Miley Cyrus into a household name who has sold over 50 million records worldwide. Yet despite all of the success she’s had with her career, the “BB Talk” singer presumably wouldn’t be as big of a star had she not had the Disney machine behind her.

But according to Cyrus, filming Hannah Montana wasn’t always as fun as many would’ve thought it would be, and that mainly because she eventually started feuding with her co-star Emily Osment, which subsequently affected their friendship enough for them to lose contact after the show’s final run in 2011.

Why Did Emily Osment And Miley Cyrus Feud?

At the start of Hannah Montana, in Season 1, things were going relatively well for Cyrus, who had already received a lot of attention for not only her singing abilities but also her acting skills.

During the first series, all of the cast members were still getting to know each other, but apparently, Cyrus and Osment had quickly built up a friendship that didn’t just play out in front of the camera but also behind the scenes.

The two became close while filming scenes for Hannah Montana, and by season 2, they were not just friends on the family show but also in real life.

In an interview with Seventeen back in 2008, the “I Can’t Be Tamed” chart-topper revealed just how tight her friendship with Osment had gotten, admitting that there was chemistry between them the minute they were put in the same room together.

“When we first met, automatically she and I were really, really close. When we’re together we’re never quiet because there’s so much to talk about and there are so many stories,” she gushed. “Every day it’s something new for us. When you’re with someone all the time, it’s more than just she and I are friends, we’re sisters now.”

Well, it appeared as if that sisterly bond that Osment and Cyrus shared didn’t last all that long because, in her autobiography, the Grammy winner acknowledged that things between them weren’t always on good terms, adding that they would constantly be bickering with one another.

Interestingly enough, Cyrus also noted that while their characters were such good pals on the show, she couldn’t get over the fact that in real life, they could no longer see eye-to-eye on anything, therefore causing countless on-set rifts.

“Emily and I tried to be friends, we really did, but it always ended in a fight,” she said. “Our characters got along so well, why couldn’t we act the same in real life?”

Once Hannah Montana was wrapped for good in 2011, the two blondes went their separate way and barely kept in contact.

In May 2013, Osment would go on to tweet Cyrus with a simple message that read: “need you back in my life, bro,” to which the latter responded, saying: “miss u. Hit me on DM.”

This instantly gave fans the impression that things were on better terms between the two and that while many didn’t think they’d see the day where these two were back to being friendly with each other again, things appeared to indicate otherwise.

Then, in March 2020, the pair virtually reunited on Cyrus’ Bright Minded Instagram Live chat show.

"This is the reunion of the decade! My BFF that shared the screen with me for the last 15 years. On and off-screen she's a badass best friend... Whether for Hannah or Miley, she's always there for her,” Cyrus said during the live-stream, failing to acknowledge their fallout.

At the end of their 10-minute chat, the Tennessee-born superstar concluded: "I just wanted to say thank you so much. Your music is badass, thank you for what you do with animals, thanks for bringing up the idea to make sure we highlight animal care at this time, and you are the best.”

Supposedly, Cyrus and Osment are back on speaking terms and they’re both following each other on social media, so judging by that alone, it would seem as if any bad blood or ill feelings they may have had about each other in the past has already been forgotten.

After all, teenagers building friendships on-set has proven to end badly on too many occasions, but Cyrus and Osment have both realized that it really wasn’t anything personal regarding their feuds in the past — they were both young and have clearly matured a lot in the past decade.
