Though many fans love Lady Gaga for her music alone, plenty of others love her for what she represents. Gaga's always been about people embracing their true selves and doing what makes them happy.

But even for people who don't like Gaga's music or her celeb persona, there's still something to be said for her business savvy. No matter how "out there" she seems (like that time she spent $50K on a "paranormal device"), she's still reaching people (and selling records) as a result. And one specific "oops" actually helped her build even more fame.

A Wardrobe Slip-Up Caused Commotion For Lady Gaga

No, it wasn't her iconic meat dress! There was another scenario, years ago, where people noticed something strange about Lady Gaga's attire. In a Reddit AMA, someone who claimed to work for Gaga answered as many questions as they were able without revealing their role/identity.

One question centered on that unfortunate wardrobe mishap wherein it appeared that Lady Gaga had an extra appendage.

The fan asked whether Gaga had a traditionally biologically male appendage, and the employee responded "For sure no." Further, they elaborated that it was all a misunderstanding, and yet a somehow convenient one.

Lady Gaga's Wardrobe Mishap Led To Publicity

Lady Gaga's employee explained away the wardrobe issue by saying it appeared the singer had male anatomy because of "a recurring fabric bunching issue for a short period of time."

They elaborated that it was "Latex meets cotton, or something like that. Eventually it worked itself out."

And yet, the rumors took a while to die down -- but the conveniently timed drama preceded a long list of her songs becoming hits. A commenter asked whether this was "clever marketing," and while the 'employee' of Gaga didn't agree, they did provide some context.

The explanation was that the rumor "ran amok" but "worked to her advantage." Further, the employee claimed, Lady Gaga was "a very business savvy woman."

In an interesting twist, this big reveal went down 11 years ago, when Lady Gaga was far less of a force than she is today.

The wardrobe incident simply reinforces what fans already knew: that Lady Gaga has the ability to give her fans what they want while also enticing the general public and media to stand up and pay attention. In fact, in recent years, Gaga has identified the music industry's power dynamics and seems set on upsetting them.

No matter the reason for publicity -- whether positive or negative -- Gaga always seems to turn it around in a way that supports her career. And fans can't fault her for that.
