Arguably, 'Moana' was the top hit of 2016 with Disney-loving kids and their parents (and in some cases, childless folk who are just plain Disney obsessed).

True, the movie was iconic in many ways. It echoed myths from Polynesian culture, cast a truly diverse cast, including the young and exquisitely talented Auli'i Cravalho (she voiced Moana and sang a handful of songs on the film's soundtrack), and didn't wind down with the female lead falling in love.

Though, Moana does sail off into the sunset. Plus, the film hid plenty of Easter eggs for eagle-eyed viewers.

Anyway, 'Moana' was almost revolutionary for fans. But for Dwayne Johnson, AKA Maui, it was just another day at the office.

Dwyane's been in countless films over the years after earning his place in the spotlight thanks to professional wrestling. In the years since 'Moana' wrapped, Johnson's career seems to have picked up, even as he welcomed two babies with his now-wife (and got married along the way).

In recent years, The Rock has appeared in two modern continuations of 'Jumanji,' a few 'Fast & Furious' films, graced 'WWE Smackdown!', and appeared on TV shows like 'Ballers.' He even lent his voice to Taylor Swift's music video for "The Man."

Truly, Dwayne is the man, even when he's a singing demigod in an animated kids' movie.

And according to IMDb, 'Moana' grossed over $643 million. But how much of that did Dwayne Johnson take home?

Looking at The Rock's resume, fans can assume he earned a pretty payday for 'Moana.' After all, his role in 'Hobbs & Shaw' earned him millions, and that movie wasn't even the capstone of the 'Fast & Furious' franchise.

Yes, as Sportskeeda highlights, Dwayne took home a massive paycheck after 'Moana' wrapped: his pay for voice acting (and singing) totaled $21 million.

But that's not all. Dwayne also raked in another $1 million for social media endorsements of the film. And it's true his involvement with the movie probably helped it sell out in theaters.

Then again, it's not like Johnson needed that massive payday to make 'Moana' happen. Sportskeeda says the actor is worth $280 million as of this year, and other sources peg him as the top-earning actor of 2020. Not bad for a 25-year-long career that's spanned everything from smashing chairs over other wrestlers' heads to appearances on 'Hannah Montana' to roles on 'Star Trek.'

Besides, The Rock's the "most-followed" man in the United States. Obviously, his role in 'Moana' commanded a big fan presence, even if his daughter doesn't quite believe her dad is really Maui.

Though his little girl is adorable, fans can't help but wonder whether that promo spot earned Dwayne yet another chunk of cash.
