Major spoilers for Money Heist season 5 belowVery few characters in Netflix's Spanish-language series, Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), despise the Professor (Álvaro Morte) as much as Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri), the woman who has spent two entire seasons chasing him. Introduced as a heartless police inspector with a penchant for torture, Sierra was hellbent on bringing down the gang of thieves, no matter the consequences.
So, when the same character had to team up with the Professor in season 5, it was a surprise to viewers.
Alicia And Sergio Team Up
Money Heist Part 5: Volume 2 picked up right where the first five episodes of the season ended, with the gang grappling with the death of Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) and several obstacles that turned up at the Bank of Spain. With the Professor grieving Tokyo's loss, very little attention was paid to Alicia, who managed to escape the stormwater tank location where the criminal mastermind had set up his base.
The Professor manages to track Sierra down, but he is outsmarted by her during their confrontation. She eventually kidnaps him, hoping to deliver the criminal to the police in exchange for them clearing her name.
When her plan goes awry, the Professor saves her from getting arrested by the police (twice!), and they take shelter in an empty home on a street teeming with police and army officials. This is where we see the characters communicate with each other for the first time, as they fear for their lives and depend on each other, even if for just a moment.
Money Heist fans enjoyed the duo's new dynamic and shared their reactions to Twitter.
"admit it, they're the duo we never thought we needed," wrote a user, sharing a still from the show that sees Alicia and the Professor watching television as they prepare to escape once more.
"entering depressive episode bc I will no longer see Alicia sierra after this," another added.
"Everybody shut up alicia and sergio are really in their besties era," said another.
The acclaimed series has ended its run with the fifth season. Although fans will miss seeing their favorite gang of thieves and their genius professor, they're relieved to see them riding off in the sunset together!
