Have you ever wondered how your favorite movie scenes are filmed? Sometimes the actors get so into it that their emotion seems so real. In some cases, that may be true. There are times that actors and actresses get so into the scene that their reactions and emotions are so incredibly real, but that's what makes the movie that much more authentic.

10 'The Princess Bride'

In the movie The Princess Bride, Cary Elwes, who played Westley actually got really hurt on the set. In one scene, when Count Rugen, the evil six-fingered man played by Christopher Guest knocks Cary's character out, the whole thing was real. Initially, they were faking the hit in order not to hurt Cary, however, it didn't seem authentic enough.

They changed the plan to hit Cary for real, but obviously not hard enough to hurt him. Unfortunately, Christopher hit Cary a little harder than intended and completely knocked him out, making the scene that much more real. Cary was knocked out so hard that he was forced to go to the hospital. Talk about making things realistic!

9 'Midnight Cowboy'

If you're seen the movie Midnight Cowboy, you might remember the iconic moment in the movie when Dustin Hoffman is walking through New York City with Jon Voight when a cab almost hit him. He looks at the cab, annoyed, and yelled "I'm walkin' here!" This line would become one of the most famous lines from the film. Little did people know, it wasn't in the script, but instead was Dustin's actual reaction. They had done several takes of the scene, and Dustin was getting annoyed, especially when the cab came out of nowhere and almost hit them. Therefore, one of the most iconic moments wasn't actually acting after all.

8 'Now You See Me'

In the movie Now You See Me, Isla Fisher's character performs a magic trick that requires her to be in a tank underwater that she needs to escape from. In the scene, she struggles and starts to drown, unable to get out. While filming the scene, Isla was actually in the tank, and she wasn't pretending to drown — she was actually drowning. Her release chain got stuck on her costume, and she wasn't able to get out quickly. Everyone thought she was just acting really well, however, she was actually panicking, struggling to get out of the tank for nearly three minutes before she was rescued.

7 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'

There's a lot going on in the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. One of the most iconic scenes in the whole movie is when he takes all of the kids and their chaperones into the candy room where everything is edible. The kids in the movie are absolutely mesmerized when they first walk into the room.

They seem mesmerized because they actually are mesmerized. That was the first time that they had seen the room, and their state of wonder was real. They wanted the kids' honest reactions when they filmed them walking in for the first time, to make it that much more real and authentic, and they definitely achieved that with the looks on their faces.

6 'Back To The Future Part III'

In Back to the Future Part III, Marty McFly played by Michael J. Fox finds himself hanging from a rope by his neck. They rehearsed the scene a bunch of times to ensure that nothing would go wrong and no one would get hurt. In rehearsals, everything ran smoothly, as they maintained space between the rope and his neck so he wouldn't get hurt. However, when it came time to filming the real thing, the rope was pulled too tight and it was caught on film. As a result, his reaction to being hung from a rope was real. Not to mention, everyone on the set thought he was acting, and it wasn't until he passed out that they realized something was wrong. He was revived, thankfully, and wound up being okay.

5 'Lord Of The Rings The Two Towers'

In Lord Of The Rings The Two Towers, Viggo Mortensen played Aragorn. There's a scene in the movie in which Viggo's character stumbles upon the remains of their Hobbit friends. In complete anguish, he breaks down, dropping to his knees. In this scene, he actually wasn't acting. He kicked the helmet on the ground so hard that he actually broke two of his toes. After kicking the helmet, he screamed in anguish, dropping to his knees. Unknowingly we'd think that he was just filled with grief, however, he was screaming out in literal pain because of his broken toes.

4 'Inglourious Basterds'

In the movie Inglourious Basterds, there was a scene in which Diane Kruger's character was choked. Of course, they weren't going to actually choke her, but director Quentin Tarantino decided otherwise. He talked to Diane and told her that he wanted the scene to come off really authentic and make the choking look real, which is why he was actually going to choke her. As a result, when they went to film the scene, Diane was actually being choked by Quentin and her reaction in the film is very real.

3 'Knocked Up'

The early 2000s comedy Knocked Up features a scene in the very beginning in which the guys are riding a roller coaster. Jay Baruchel who appeared in the movie was a part of the roller coaster scene, and if you noticed, he was absolutely terrified, and he wasn't acting. Originally, the director allowed Jay to opt-out of the scene because he was so scared. However, when it came to filming, the director backed down on his word and told Jay that he needed to get on the ride. Doing what he was told, he got onto the ride as much as he didn't want to. As a result, when he was screaming "I gotta get off!" that was pure terror from Jay.

Susan Backlinie played the role of Chrissie Watkins, the first person to be attacked by the shark in Jaws. In the movie, Susan was suddenly pulled under water by the shark which was one of the first terrifying moments in the movie. When filming, Susan was not told when she would be pulled underwater in order to make her sheer terror that much more authentic. As a result, Susan was absolutely not acting in that scene, as she was truly terrified not knowing when they were going to pull her under.

If you've seen The 40 Year Old Virgin, you'll most likely remember the hilarious scene in which Steve Carell gets his chest waxed. We can definitely tell you that those pure screams of agony definitely weren't fake as he actually had his chest waxed for the scene, and his pain was very real. When filming, Steve agreed that he would have his chest waxed for real on camera as he wanted to have an authentic reaction to make it seem that much more real. He definitely succeeded, as he had us laughing.
