Russell Brand Revealed That Things Were Off To A Bad Start Even Before The Interview Started

From the start, things did not feel right for Russell Brand during his time on Morning Joe. This started even before the cameras were rolling, as he was arriving on-set and greeted backstage.

The actor opened up alongside The Guardian, detailing his negative experience on the show. Brand revealed that despite being polite to everyone, the same amount of respect was not given back, perhaps because of his 'actor' sterotype.

"I have learned to treat people apparently lacking power with cordiality. This means that when I arrived at the New York studios of Morning Joe, the gleaming, informal mid-morning MSNBC news analysis show, I was polite to everyone there."

"I was surprised by the soundman’s impatient intrusiveness and yet more surprised as I stood just off set, beside the faux-newsroom near the pseudo-researchers who appear on camera as pulsating set dressing, when the soundman yapped me to heel with the curt entitlement of Idi Amin’s PA."

Not Knowing Their Guest Caused Russell Brand To Sound Off On The Morning Joe Crew

"He's a pretty big deal, I'm told," is not the best way to introduce a guest... Mika Brzezinski did a poor job of welcoming Russell Brand, mentioning that she is very behind when it comes to pop culture. It was clear right from the start, Brand was none too pleased with the direction of the interview.

"I think this is my first Brand experience, I think it's not just listening to him, it is taking it all in," Mika Brzezinski stated. Brand took exception to the statement, not appreciating the fact that he was constantly referred to as "he" despite the fact that he was live in studio with the rest of crew.

It was at that point in which Brand had enough, and started to fire some jabs... "Stop saying he, I'm present, what's wrong with your manners."

"Look beyond the superficial, that's the problem with current affairs, you forget about the current agenda, focus on what I'm saying and not what I am wearing."

Brand had taken complete control of the show, and it became evident Mika Brzezinski was desperate for a commercial break at that point to collect herself and get back on track.

The moment has a near two million views on YouTube, with fans praising Brand for his candid thoughts. The actor opened up about the experience even further, mentioning that prior to the cameras rolling, things were different with the interviewers.

Russell Brand Reveals The Interviewers Changed Their Tune When The Cameras Started Rolling

Looking back at what went down alongside The Hollywood Reporter, Brand made mention that things were quite different prior to the awkward interview getting started.

Brand stated that everyone was cordial and friendly at the beginning, though the tune quickly changed once they went live on the air.

“One of the things that’s surprising when you go on telly a lot is that often the on-camera ‘talent’ (yuck!) are perfectly amiable when you chat to them normally, but when the red light goes on, they immediately transform into shark-eyed Stepford berks talking in a cadence you encounter nowhere else but TV-land — a meter that implies simultaneously carefree whimsy and stifled hysteria,” Brand stated.

It was a valuable lesson surely for all those involved. As for the Morning Joe cast, they all kept quiet about the experience, despite all the publicity it garnered from the mainstream.
