While in Miami, he participated in a reality TV competition called Design Star by HGTV in 2006. The main prize to be won on the reality show was an opportunity to host a program on the network. David competed against nine other people for weeks before finally emerging as the lucky winner, and not only did he win the grand prize of a hosting a show, but he also won a car.
